Facebook feels like a necessary evil, and that’s not the best thing. The platform is a money hungry place that doesn’t really care about the truth or making sure that people aren’t spreading potentially damaging information.
In today’s world, where everything is happening and we are all frightened, misinformation is dangerous. And with COVID – Facebook isn’t stopping the spread of misinformation.
Last week, the singer/actress/all around bad ass, took to Twitter and reposted a tweet from the BBC. The video from the BBC News with the Center for Countering Digital Hate CEO Imi Ahmed saying that social media companies are claiming that they are doing everything to stop misinformation about COVID, but in reality they are doing nothing.
Scientific disinformation has and will cost lives. @Facebook said they don’t allow lies about COVID and vaccines to be spread on their platforms. So how come all of this is still happening? Facebook is going to be responsible for thousands of deaths if they don’t take action now! https://t.co/IAtDpNT5Tt

She’s right. Misinformation can and will cause a lot of issues. With so much to learn about COVID we need to be careful and Facebook needs to be more diligent with what they are doing.
Where do you stand on this? Do you agree? Disagree?
