We thought our love and admiration for Laura Moon’s journey was going to be kept to last week’s American Gods titled “Ashes and Demons.” It was a watershed episode for her that changed hte way she saw herself and that matters. Then “The Unseen” happened and we’re over the moon and in love with this woman’s journey, the love she feels for Mad Sweeney, and what’s to come next.
In many ways, she’s still the same Laura Moon. She’s still messy, all sorts of fucked up, and doesn’t care who knows it. But in many ways she has changed dramatically. This is her second act. It’s not her chance to fix things. She’s not about that. This is her opportunity to own her existence and live on her own terms. And she has Mad Sweeney to thank for that.
Personally, we thought that we were seeing things. You know, shipping something because we could with the knowledge that it was never going to happen. Well, we weren’t seeing things. The love between Laura Moon and Mad Sweeney is real. We know it. And now Laura knows it too. That’s why she held that box so reverently.
Mad Sweeney’s blood brought her back. It breathed life into her and set her on a new journey. It was the missing ingredient she needed and we hope and pray that she somehow or someway has the opportunity to confront him about it and…just continue being who they are together. Because love is part of existing and if Laura and Sweeney have an opportunity to have that together, we want that.
Laura and Sweeney complete each other. Yes, it started off in a really twisted and fucked up way. There’s no denying that. But they never hid from that. They faced who they were head on and got to know each other in a way that neither expected. There is love there, a bond that Mr. Wednesday would kill for, and we hope Laura makes him bleed for it.
Also, can we talk about the montage American Gods gave us for Laura and Sweeney? We see you, shippers of Starz! Who had to make that? How long did it take? We need to talk about this journey ASAP and see where it goes next. Another thing, what was up with THE song playing anytime Laura thought of Sweeney? THEY HAVE A SONG, PEOPLE! And it played again when she saw that light on the horizon because it wasn’t for Shadow. It was for Sweeney!
Ok, enough with the swooning over these two assholes who are totally in love. What’s to come next…well, it’s gonna get messy. Laura is living for herself while carrying the weight of her guilt over Sweeney’s death. She’s not going to let Wednesday off easily and her trip to Cairo is going to lead her down some interesting roads. And we hope Laura has enough the same amount of belief in herself that we have for her.
Laura has this. Wednesday just doesn’t know it yet. She’s the one he should look out for. She always has been. And if she uses her anger to get revenge for herself and her sassy mouthed leprechaun we’re not going to complain. We’re going to cheer her on and wait in anticipation and what Laura is going to do next.
American Gods will return February 14th on Starz.
