Welcome back Nancy Drew fans! Nancy and her crew are still alive and still trying to figure out how to stop the Aglaeca before she kills them. I feel badly for everyone involved right now. Honestly, because of the trauma (murder) the Aglaeca endured when she was human, she really is a sympathetic character to me. All of the Scooby gang is on board to stop her, and this week they even brought along “My Two Dads” to help them.
Although we still don’t know how to defeat the Aglaeca and bring her peace, we did find out more about her previous life as human. We also learned of another murder of Captains Marvin’s second wife, who came after her. This episode was packed with delicious morsels of information and I loved it. So lets talk about Nancy Drew 2×04 “The Fate of the Buried Treasure,” shall we?
The Dynamic Duo
Nancy and Bess haven’t had that many scenes together so far this season, so it was a treat for me to see them interact again and work together to find more about Odette. Bess hung back a bit while Nancy did her sleuthing thing, but you what I love about Bess? She is ride or die. Bess may not know how to pick a lock, or hack into computers but homegirl has Nancy’s back and really what more can you ask for? Nancy and Bess seek out Odette’s past this week and find out she owned a necklace that was stolen by Captain Marvin and given to his second wife! What an asshole!
Nancy squared off with a tour guide which was freaking hilarious! This guy tried to go toe to toe with this red head and she was having none of it! Nancy set his ass straight about what really happened to Odette and made him look like a fool in front of everyone on his tour. Loved it! The theme this week seemed to be that the truth is stranger than fiction. Who would have ever believed that Captain Marvin, killed not one but two women and stole their fortunes to build and empire in Horseshoe Bay. Agnes was Captain Marvin’s second wife who figured out how Odette really died and so he locked her in his basement, and chained her up until she died. WTF! Lucky for Nancy, Agnes was fucking smart, and a badass too. Agnes, created a cipher out of music notes and hid Odette’s necklace along with a bunch of letters to Odette’s female lover back in England, hoping one day someone would piece together her clue’s and bring Odette peace.
Portents, Talisman’s and the Dybbuk
After Ryan Hudson secures the Dybbuk for Nancy, its up to her and the Scooby gang to figure out what should go in it. First things first they need to find the necklace that belonged to Odette, and thanks to Agnes’ ghost, Nancy has some clues. You know what I did not expect, but found hilarious? Ryan figuring out that Agnes’s cyphers were actually musical notes before Nancy did. Nancy was bemused as well, but she had no time to bond with him over that. Ryan, Nancy will literally die in two days if she can’t get her shit together and stop the Aglaeca. Talk to you later. K bye!
Although Nancy feels bad for Odette and what she has become she still doesn’t want to die. I feel you girl. Do what you need to do to survive! Nancy figures out those musical notes are part of a hymnal, which leads her to a church and a confessional. I like that Nancy always has what she needs with her, a flashlight, Swiss army knife, wits and nerve. Nancy locates, the necklace and the letters, so now, it’s time to get this show on the road! Nancy, get that dybbuk and talisman and head to the ocean ASAP!
The Aglaeca is not amused with the Scooby gang, she tore that dybbuk to shreds, I didn’t know she was that powerful! How will Nancy explain the destruction of the dybbuk to Ryan? Who knows how much money he paid for that. Gah! Also the one thing they thought would save their lives has been destroyed and they have no plan b. They did escape death once again because a seaweed wreath strangled the Aglaeca and pushed her back into the ocean but not without Nancy noticing she came became human for a brief time, while trying to touch her necklace. Interesting.
Lovers Rock
Oh Nick! Nick is really a good guy. He may not be the most exciting character on Nancy Drew, but he does have a lot of depth and heart. Nick is trying to keep George sane because she is really pushed to her breaking point. George takes care of her sisters and runs a restaurant and solves mysteries dammit! She needs a break, or at least a vacation. Shit. Nick loves George and so he tells her! George doesn’t say she loves him back, which is fine with Nick. He knows its a lot to process and just holds her close. Love them.
Guess who made a comeback tonight? Lisbeth. Ya’ll remember her? Where has she been? I thought she moved, died or was just written off. But nope, she appeared, briefly. I don’t have anything against Lisbeth, although she and Bess look alike, and watching them kiss is like watching Bess kiss her twin. Ewwww! But whatever writers, Lisbeth loves Bess and wants her to meet the fam, which would be sweet if Bess wasn’t going to die. It was so sad watching Bess look at Lisbeth from afar waiting for her to show up for dinner. I yelled at Bess to just tell Lisbeth already! Lisbeth is cool and might even be able to help. Everyone has a secret on this show though, and Bess is no different. Lets hope Bess lives long enough to apologize to Lisbeth for standing her up and they smooth things over. I will be here for all of it. See you next week ya’ll.
Nancy Drew airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on the CW.
