Welcome back Nancy Drew fans! Last week brough us a hiatus, but this week we are back, and boy is a jam packed episode! We get to see more of the Boppsey twins, the Nancy and Ace dynamic, and the fallout of Nancy recanting her testimony and put her grandfather away in prison. Of course Nick is hanging out in the background being his skeptical self, Bess and Odette provide the comedic relief, and Nancy and the gang have to help a young girl, Birdie who is being raised by ghost children. I know its all very weird and like gets weirder, so lets dive into this weeks episode of ‘Nancy Drew‘ “The Beacon on Moonstone Island.”
Friends and Lovers

So many couples this episode, and so many ackward glances as well. I like the Boppsey twins, as seperate entities, not as like part of the Drew crew and certainly not as love interests for Nancy and Ace, who clearly might have feelings for one another? More on that later. Nancy and Gil sleep together and the morning after, she reads about herself in the paper but I don’t think she regrets what she did. Meh. The whole Hudson drowned people hundreds of years ago/Tiffany Hudson thumb drive storyline is very boring to me. I really don’t care and we all know Nick is my least favorite character so the less time I have to listen to him whine, the better.
Nancy/Gil and Ace/Amanda all sleep together in the same house, though not in the same bed. Ha! Its still ackward though because each of the lovers see’s the other in the hallway, it’s like a freaking frat house over there! Gil seems a bit posessive to me and I think he picks up on Ace and Nancy’s connection because he feels the need to assert himself and invites her on a boat ride to Moonstone Island. Amanda, not to be outdone, decides she is going to, because it’s their grandfathers boat not his! Oh Twins! Ace and Nancy bundle up and head out with them to this island that is supposedly haunted and has mysterious lights coming from it. What square yard of Horsehoe Bay isn’t haunted? I mean seriously, why is everyone always acting surprised when they find a new ghost or polergiest? In this case, however, the entity is a real human being, a child named Birdie and she’s bleeding so they agree to take her back to the Claw.
Fire Souls

So Apparently Birdie was/is being raised by fire souls who dwell on Moonstone Island. I know, I know it sounds like a Disney+ movie, but it’s not. Birdie was thought to have drowned at sea five years ago but clearly she is alive, thanks to the fire souls. If anyone had asked me, I would have told them all about Poltergiests and how they pretend to love and care for you, but really they just want you to come into the light. #carolanne #poltergiest2 #cane
Birdie, how in the world do you have shoes and clothes that fit you? I digress, she’s wearing Lands end clothing for goodness sakes! Can still hold a conversation with people! She is not catatonic, just a skittish little girl and who wouldn’t be, anytime anyone has come close to dwelling on the island with her, the fire souls burn down their house! Birdie doesn’t remember much of her life before the she came to live on the island. That’s called PTSD. The firesouls, supposedly blew her parents ship up too! WTF! No one has ever looked into this? Nancy come on girl! The little poltergiests are mad Nancy took Birdie away and start causing shit to crack, smoke, embers to pop up out of think air. (It was pretty cool to watch) George convienantly knows a ritual that will free the poltergiests so they head back to island of doom. Poor Birdie has not known anyone else but these poltergiests and she clearly has stockholm syndrome. Birdie doesn’t want to trap them, but finally succeeds when they try and hurt her. Good job Birdie! You will have therapy bills for years, but like literally no one will say you’re crazy or lock you up in an asylum so there is a bright side.
Just when I thought it was over, and I could go to bed happy, Nancy Drew pulls out another whammy! Birdies damn uncle, killed her parents and made it look like an accident. The poltergiest left a clue for Nancy in the form of a burn on her arm. Well played, fire souls, well played. Nancy and Amanda figure this out before the cops, obviously and head to find Birdie who has run away, desperatly trying to get back to the island. Nancy finds her and consoles her, she knows what its like to find out your are noth the person you thought you were. They agree to let the fire souls go, and it’s a beautiful scene to watch. Letting go of the past and embracing the future is a huge theme on this show. Hopefully Birdie turns out okay, I think it helped that Nancy is easy to talk to and connect with. Nancy are you sure you don’t want to be a detective/psychiatrist? Get your Ph.D girl! I support you! Until next time guys.
