The Player’s Table, based on Jessica Goodman’s book They Wish They Were Us, has been picked up by HBO Max for series development. The series which we previously reported on, is set to come from Fifty-Fifty Films, the production company launched by Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney alongside Jean-Marc Vallée & Nathan Ross’ Crazyrose and Endeavor Content.
Sydney Sweeney will star in The Player’s Table alongside singer-songwriter Halsey. In case you need a refresher on what it’s about here you go:
In The Players Table, the truth may as well be arbitrary in a world where no one says what they mean. In the affluent town of Gold Coast, Long Island — a community sustained by lies, complicity, and absolute moral decay — two young women (Sweeney and Halsey) come of age as they unravel the mystery of a classmates’ murder. But in order to understand what happened to their friend, they must first confront what’s happened to them.
Author Jessica Goodman will Executive Produce and Halsey is signed on as a Co-Executive Producer. Annabelle Attanasio is attached to write, direct, and executive produce the project, which will be a co-production between HBO Max and Endeavor Content. She had this to say about The Players Table;
This show is about what happens when young women aren’t taken seriously. It is about wanting to belong to something so badly you could die, and then realizing you actually want to break it into a million pieces.
We’re excited already and we know both Sydney and Halsey can pull off these roles.
