We pretty much say this about every episode of 9-1-1, but 9-1-1 4×08 “Breaking Point” was truly an amazing episode. What other show can make you laugh until you almost cry and then actually make you cry a few minutes later? This episode touched all of us as the 118 helped the community pull off a miracle.
At the beginning of “Breaking Point” a flight attendant completely freaks out. She can’t handle the ridiculous demands of the passengers, so she downs all the mini bottles of alcohol she can find. They’re not enough to keep her calm so she jumps out of the plane with a bottle of wine. Yes, these passengers were annoying, but we think she was a little overdramatic.
This couldn’t have been the first time she’s had to deal with stupid questions and passengers who won’t cooperate. But we did appreciate the comic relief, and we hope that the flight attendant looks for a new job. Since she’s definitely going to need it.
After the 118 deals with the airline employee who ended up with the wine cork lodged in his neck after trying to help the flight attendant, they head off to a hostage situation. This is a different situation than what we’re used to as the guy with the gun is standing on top of the roof.
The 118 end up spending hours here, and it was great! (We know, that’s not usually what you say about a hostage situation). Chim confides to Hen that Maddie wants to have a home birth (and we’re glad she changed her mind at the end), food gets ordered, and Buck ends up talking to literally anyone who will listen about how he feels now that Albert is dating Veronica.
Taylor, the reporter who Buck briefly went out with, is one of the people Buck talks to in “Breaking Point.” We don’t really love the idea of Taylor and Buck dating again, but we think she would be a good friend for Buck. She’s not afraid to tell Buck the truth and things he might not want to hear.
We could relate to her when she teared up on camera. We’ve all been there at least a few times in the last year. And it was so touching watching the 118 work to get everyone a Covid vaccine in two hours. These guys truly care about their community.
Other Thoughts:
- Christopher may be the cutest kid ever. We love watching him with his dad, but his scenes with Buck are always extra special.
- It looks like Hen and Karen are going to lose their daughter and that breaks our hearts. Unfortunately, that’s the reality of foster care, and we hope the rest of the 118 is there to help Hen get through this.
- Anyone else happy that Albert broke up with Veronica?
Favorite Quotes:
Hen: “That there is a whole series of bad choices cumulating in this one unfortunate moment. It would be tragic if it wasn’t so moronic.”
Hen: “So Maddie really wants to have this baby at home?” Chim: “I’m a nurse, you’re a paramedic. What could possibly go wrong?” Hen: It feels like a 9-1-1 dispatcher should know the answer to that question.”
Police Officer: “How long did you date this woman?” Buck: “90 minutes. Maybe less. We took dessert to go.” Officer: “And I’m done. Good luck.”
