Here at Fangirlish we’re looking forward to Shadow and Bone coming to Netflix on April 23. In the meantime, we wanted to bring you some curiosities about the actors who are going to give life to some of our favorite characters. It’s the turn of Freddy Carter, AKA Kaz Brekker, Dirtyhands, Bastard of the Barrel and the man who’s only soft around Inej Ghafa.
Here we go!
He’s British
Freddy, like partner in crime Ben Barnes, is British, specifically, from Plymouth, Devon. His passion for acting runs in the family, since his brother, Tom Austen, is also an actor. Can you imagine having Freddy and Ben as neighbors? We can neither confirm nor deny that we’re looking at airline tickets to England, just in case (wink, wink).
He was Part of Emmy-Winning Free Rain
Shadow and Bone is not the first project that Freddy has worked on for Netflix. He starred on the show Free Rain from 2017 to 2019 and that show won an Emmy! We will always thank the series and Netflix not only for Freddy but also for giving us an image of him in a tux while holding an Emmy. An image to remember.
He appeared in Wonder Woman, and you didn’t notice
That’s right, our Kaz, was a soldier in the first Wonder Woman movie. And right now, we’re absolutely playing the film again to find him, because the truth is that when we watched the film we absolutely didn’t notice. But now, we will never not notice him again.
He writes and directs
His passion for acting isn’t the only thing that drives Freddy. He has also dabbled in more, by writing and directing a short titled No. 89, as well as his first movie Broken Gargoyles, that we can’t wait to enjoy. Maybe he will dare to direct an episode of Shadow and Bone season 2? We’re here for this!
He cares about social causes
Freddy Carter is very vocal about the social causes he supports, and he hasn’t hesitated to give his support to the Black Lives Matter movement, the feminist movement and a cause that is really close to his heart: The Black Curriculum, an educational program to show young minds the art and history of the Black community. We can’t love him more for it.
He always gives 100% in everything he does
Freddy gives his all in every project he undertakes. The most recent is Shadow and Bone, a show that has a great fandom and many expectations behind it. And Freddy is super excited about this. You can really feel how eager he is for everyone to watch Shadow and Bone and enjoy the show.
And when you press play and actually watch the show you will find that Freddy is the perfect Kaz and the work he has put into this complex character, how involved he is and how he has connected with this character of gray – almost black – morality, that we all love is… special. And you´re going to love it.
