In an effort to build a space for queer people like myself, every Tuesday I’ll be posting interviews, opinion pieces, listicals, reviews, and more focused on the LGBT community (and occasionally about the Latinx community since I am Latinx.) Welcome to Queerly Not Straight! Enjoy and leave a comment below if you have a suggestion for what I should cover next.
Ever wondered what would happen if someone took your favorite pieces of art throughout history and made them gay? What if that someone also made them POC inclusive? You don’t have to wonder anymore because Classics…But Make It Gay is here to fill that void in your life when it comes to queer art history!
Just launched on Kickstarter, Classics…But Make It Gay is the brain child of married couple Nova and Mali. They are seasoned Kickstarter creators who ran a successful project titled Lady Tarot Cards just last year, with supporters all over the world and over 800 decks distributed. This time they’re teaming up to create something just as unique.
Classics…But Make It Gay is set to be an art book with over 60 illustrations from artists from all over. Available in both hard copy and digital PDFs, these artists took art history as we know it and made it LGBTQ and POC inclusive like we deserve. You want want to see the Birth of Venus but trans? They’ve got you. Leyendecker but lesbians? They’ve got you too!
But wait, there’s more! Classics…But Make It Gay has an initial goal of $30,000 that runs from April 6th to May 5th, 2021. This project will also include stickers, holographic prints, and metal bookmarks. And if you participate in this Kickstarter you are supporting over 60 LGBTQ and POC inclusive artists that bring this project to life!
So head on over to their Kickstarter, show your support for Nova and Mali on their Twitter, and prepare your coffee tables for the art they deserve!
