Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 is really close! And the trailer picks up right where the finale left us, with Julia and Henry separated, the Jacobite revolution looming, and basically everyone we care about heading toward some very complicated choices. There’s a lot happening in this trailer, but these are the 5 things we can’t stop thinking about. Ready?

Julia Is Completely Alone After the Stones
Let’s start with the part that immediately broke our hearts: Julia is left completely alone after the stones.
Season 1 ended at Craigh na Dun with Julia, Henry, and their baby caught in a situation that already felt impossible. Now, Season 2 picks up almost immediately after that, and somehow things have gotten even worse. Henry manages to cross the stones without Julia and the baby, separating them once again and sending him back to his own time.
Except…he doesn’t exactly end up where we might have expected him to.
For Julia, that means being left behind with her baby and having to figure out what comes next. She knows Henry is out there somewhere, but she has no idea where he ended up or whether she will ever be able to find him again. And, of course, that means Julia’s story this season is going to involve trying to get back to him. Again.
The trailer makes it clear that she will attempt to cross the stones herself so she can reunite with Henry. But getting there is going to be anything but simple, especially because Julia is also going to have to deal with the political situation unfolding around her.
Julia Has to Return to Castle Leathers
Because apparently being separated from Henry and trying to get through the stones wasn’t enough, Julia also has to return to Castle Leathers and face Lord Lovat again.
The Jacobite revolution is beginning to explode around her, and Julia is forced to navigate a dangerous political landscape while trying to keep herself and her child safe. And she has already left herself with a rather complicated problem where Lovat is concerned.
At the end of Season 1, Julia managed to convince him that Henry had kidnapped her and their son. It was a lie, but at the time, it was a lie she needed to tell to protect herself. The question now is whether that story is going to hold. If Lovat begins to suspect that Julia wasn’t telling him the truth, that could put her in a dangerous position.
But there’s another thing in the trailer that has us even more curious.
Julia is seen confessing the whole truth to Davina. And when we say the whole truth, we mean the whole truth. She is finally letting someone else in on what has actually happened, which makes us wonder what Davina is going to do with that information. Will she believe Julia? Will she help her? Or will knowing the truth put Julia in even more danger?
Honestly, we have no idea. And that’s why we need to know what happens next!
Henry Is Losing Hope While Trying to Find His Way Back
Meanwhile, Henry’s side of this story might be one of the hardest things to watch. Being separated from Julia and their baby one more time is devastating, but the trailer makes it clear that Henry is also struggling with his mental health as he desperately tries to find a way back to his family.
And, after the stones, he ends up in what appears to be some kind of hospital or mental institution. Which is, frankly, one of the worst possible outcomes for him. Henry has been through something that nobody around him is likely to understand. And now, he has neither Julia nor Claire by his side.
He doesn’t have someone who knows what he has experienced. And, most importantly, he doesn’t seem to have anyone who can actually help him get back to Julia. The trailer shows just how desperate he is becoming, and it feels like this is going to be a very different journey for Henry than the one we saw in Season 1.
Brian and Murtagh Are Answering the Call to War
While Julia and Henry are desperately trying to find each other, the world around them is moving toward war. The trailer gives us those unmistakable crosses of fire lighting up the Highlands, and with the Jacobite revolution underway, Brian and his cousin Murtagh are preparing to ride out and fight alongside Lord Lovat.
And that creates a problem for Brian and Ellen. Because the two of them have plans for a future together. After everything they have already gone through, they should finally be getting a chance to think about what their life could look like.
Instead, duty comes calling.
Brian and Murtagh have to answer that call and fight for their clans, which means Brian and Ellen are forced to put their plans for the future on pause. And considering everything we know about these two, that is not exactly going to be easy. There is also the fact that going to war means they have to worry about protecting each other while everything around them becomes dangerous.
Brian is being pulled toward his duty to his clan, while Ellen has her own responsibilities to the MacKenzies. They may want a life together, but the approaching war is making that future much harder to reach. And we’re already worried about what that is going to mean for them.
Ellen Is Going to Have to Outmaneuver Her Own Family
And then there’s Ellen. After everything that happened with her failed wedding to Malcolm, Ellen returns to Castle Leoch and finds herself in a position where she needs to guide Clan MacKenzie through a revolution that could change everything.
Her goal is pretty straightforward, at least in theory: protect her clan, protect her family, and make sure they survive regardless of who ultimately wins the war for the crown. The problem is that convincing everyone else to follow her plan is going to be much harder.
Ellen is clearly trying to come up with a clever strategy that will protect the MacKenzies no matter which side comes out on top. She knows that simply choosing a side and hoping for the best isn’t necessarily going to keep her family safe, especially with the political situation becoming more dangerous by the minute. But the trailer also makes one thing obvious: her brothers aren’t ready to listen to her.
Ellen ran away with Brian after what happened with Malcolm, and it’s clear that her brothers haven’t forgotten about it. If anything, they seem far from ready to forgive her, which means Ellen is going to have to convince people who are already angry with her that she knows what she’s doing.
So yes, Ellen has quite a lot on her plate.
And if the trailer is any indication, Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 is about to make all of these problems considerably worse before they get better. Now we just need Season 2 to give us some answers.
