Attention Kennedy Ryan fans, we have some major news for you. The Traveling Picture Show Company (TPSC) has acquired the rights to two of her most popular book series.
According to Variety, Kennedy Ryan’s ‘Hoops‘ and ‘All The King’s Men‘ series are being developed into two limited series for television. Each series has a total of three books so that’s a total of six books being adapted and trust us, they are amazing. We previously talked about Kennedy Ryan’s books in 2019 in our list of POC authors to check out. For those of you who are not familiar with these books, here’s a brief synopsis:
The ‘Hoops series‘ which includes ‘Long Shot,‘ ‘Block Shot,’ and ‘Hook Shot,’ are romance novels set in the NBA world. The books follow three couples whose day jobs include professional basketball, fashion design, and sports representation.
I have all of the books in the ‘Hoops’ series but haven’t read them yet. I think now is the perfect time.
The ‘All The King’s Men series‘ which is one of my absolute favorites includes ‘The Kingmaker,’ ‘The Rebel King,’ and ‘Queen Move.’ The series follows two best friends who dedicate their lives to electing leaders who will champion the causes they are committed to.
These include activism around Native rights, missing and murdered Indigenous women, climate change, pay equity and voter suppression. When I tell you this series is incredible, believe me. I am sooooo excited to see it onscreen because they are such emotional reads that deal with some timely issues.

Kennedy Ryan is one of my absolute favorite black authors because she writes such diverse stories and characters. She had this to say about her books being adapted;
Seeing these stories of powerful, dynamic, fully-realized characters of color translated from book to screen is a dream come true. As an avid romance reader who grew up often not seeing myself adequately reflected in the books I loved, it’s a privilege to write stories of women from marginalized communities getting the happily ever after’s they deserve.”
I could not agree more with this statement.
At this time we don’t know much other than Kevin Matusow, Carissa Buffel, Luisa Iskin and Johnny Wunder of TPSC are producing with executive producer Sadia Ashraf under her Rising Tides banner. One thing we do know is, we will be keeping our eyes open for all the things and we are anxiously awaiting casting news because whoever plays these characters needs to bring their A-game.
This is very exciting news! I absolutely love Queen Move, and I keep hearing good things about the first two books in the series, so I believe I’ll be checking those out as well. Looking forward to seeing these romances hit the small screen.
