9-1-1: Lonestar returned this week with 2×09 “Saving Grace.” When the show went on break a few weeks ago, we were left with a huge cliffhanger: would Judd and Grace survive their car accident? This episode gave us answers to that question and we learned more about Judd and Grace’s past.
We learn pretty early in the episode that Judd is awake and okay. But Grace was under water for longer, and she’s still unconscious. While Judd’s waiting for Grace to wake up, the episode shows us flashbacks to Judd as a kid and how he met Grace. Back in 1995, Judd and one his friends went joyriding in a car and they hit a tree. Unfortunately, his friend doesn’t survive. Years later after Judd becomes a firefighter, he ends up rescuing the friend’s mother. She recognizes Judd, and she doesn’t want him anywhere near her.
After this, he decides to call the prayer crisis number, and Grace answers the call. He decides to fix up his friend’s mom’s house as a way to try to make amends. Judd calls the prayer crisis number over and over again just to talk to Grace. This was adorable. One day the mom of his friend decides to forgive Judd.
Judd and Grace end up finally meeting in a bar. We loved that Tommy Vega was the one that forced Judd to talk to Grace. After this meeting, they start dating. It’s clear they like each other very much, but Grace’s dad thinks Judd’s career will hold Grace back. He wants better things for his daughter. So Judd decides to lie to Grace. He thinks if she believes he doesn’t love her, she’ll go to Georgetown and forget all about him.
In 2013, Grace and Judd reunite at the hospital after Tommy and her husband have their twins. Grace didn’t go to Georgetown, and Judd reveals he lied to her. He does love her. We love that Tommy’s twins were part of the reason they reunited!
In the present, the 126 shows up with food. Of course, they all wanted to be there for Judd and support him as they waited for Grace to wake up. We were afraid for a minute that she wouldn’t wake up, and we were afraid for Judd once he found out the drunk driver was in the same hospital. Luckily, for everyone, Grace is okay except she’s going to have to go through pretty intense physical therapy. And there’s even better news: she’s pregnant! We’re so excited! We cannot wait for Judd and Grace’s baby.
Grace Ryder really is Judd’s “Saving Grace.” Without her, who knows how Judd’s life would have turned out. Hopefully, nothing bad will ever happen to her again. We don’t think we could watch 9-1-1: Lonestar without her.
Other Thoughts:
- We loved that Grace was the first thing on Judd’s mind when he first woke up. All he cared about was making sure she was okay.
- We’ve always wondered about Judd’s Psalm tattoo. Now we know when he got it.
- We absolutely love Barry Corbin as Judd’s dad. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more of him now that Grace and Judd are expecting.
