Not going to lie, Batwoman‘s “I’ll Give You a Clue” was kind of a dud. It had the makings of greatness, especially because I relish the fact that we have women of color having scenes together that have nothing to do with a romantic love interest. Ryan, Mary, and Sophie were there to kick ass and save the day. And they did both of those. But somehow this episode still ended up being flat from start to end. But that doesn’t mean we didn’t learn anything from “I’ll Give You a Clue.” Here are 5 things we learned from this episode of Batwoman!
1. Ryan really gonna act like she didn’t abandon someone in need.
Like I said in my review of “Initiate Self-Destruct,” what Ryan did was against the code that this superhero wears as a shield. Having Ryan leave Alice when she needed help tells us that Ryan still has hate in her heart ruling over the legacy she wants to leave as Batwoman. (Which we totally understand why.) And that’s a recipe for disaster waiting to happen. Here’s hoping that the show picks up on that thread again before the season is over.
2. Alice is ridiculously skilled with skin making…for some reason.
Did I miss the episode where they explain HOW Alice got so good at creating the skin for new faces? Also, how does it stick on? Oh, and another thing. Has Alice scene how long it takes to threat hair on a doll? (Don’t ask how I’ve seen this but it was a disastrous nightmare.) Because threading and creating eyebrows, lips, and requires skill that even the most skilled wouldn’t be able to actually bring to life. Maybe Alice took a special seminar? That’s got to be it.
3. Mary is the best and will continue being so.
Mary is everyone’s ride or die. You need help and you’ve just met her? Oh, don’t worry. She’s got you! Suffering from Snake Bite withdrawal and have been hiding it from your kid? Oh, she’s got you too. Need someone to talk sense into you about not trusting someone who should be given a chance because of how far they’ve all come together? Oh, our girl has you for that as well. She’s legit the best of them all and I will hear no arguing.
4. Even nerds know how to flirt.
Luke and Stephanie flirting was the cutest thing ever! They met each other, challenge for challenge, and left me wanting more of these dorks being adorable with each other. Well, minus the knocking out of Luke. Not cool! But besides that, it was really amazing seeing Ryan and Mary excited for Luke. They’re family and they get to tease said family about nerdy flirting. It’s in the found family handbook.
5. It’s going to be a long road before Kate finds herself again.
“I’ll Give You a Clue” saw Alice hunting for answers while being surrounded by the worst of the worst in Gotham. Yes, they might’ve taken a nail or two, but Alice had the upper hand the entire time. And now that she’s gotten sight of Circe…I mean, Kate’s eyes, she’s not going to let this go. If anything, she’s going to fight harder for her sister. No matter what it takes or what roads she had to go down.
Batwoman airs Sundays at 9/8c on The CW.
