Love, Victor premiered last June and captured all of our hearts. It extended the Love, Simon universe with a new lead with a very different story from Simon Spier’s story. In addition, it introduced us to a group of new characters that we fell in love with instantly. So now, we can finally say that the wait for Season 2 is almost over. Hulu gifted us the Season 2 trailer like they knew it was exactly what we needed.
The trailer picks up right where Season 1 ended: with Victor coming out to his parents. Love, Victor left us with that cliffhanger for a year! Fans of the movie Love, Simon will remember the unforgettable moment when Emily, Simon’s mom, told him, “You can exhale now, Simon.” But, unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that Victo will hear any words similar to those from his parents, at least not yet. Nevertheless, there is a moment in the trailer with Victor’s dad that gives me so much hope that Armando and Isabel will accept their son eventually.
Seriously, I cried my way through this trailer. Be honest, you did too, right?
Thankfully, Victor has a solid group of people in his life to support him no matter what. Most importantly, he has the coolest and hottest, according to Lake, boyfriend ever. She’s not wrong! It’s surreal to know that we will actually get to see Benji and Victor as an actual couple this season! They’re not the only couple Love, Victor will let us get to know this year. Things appear to be heating up between Lake and Felix. Speaking of Felix, we’ll get to see his home life this season as the trailer introduces his mother, played by Besty Brandt.
Plus, it looks like Mia is still trying to move on from her relationship with Victor. This could mean well for people like me who want her to be with Andrew because, let’s be honest, Andrew is pretty great once you get to know him. That’s all good and well until Andrew surprises Mia and us with a new girlfriend. Andrew is not waiting around for Mia this season. Regardless, I’m looking forward to watching Mia find her place after all the big changes in her life last season.
Victor’s parting words in the trailer of “Maybe one day I can inspire someone to be themselves” is enough to bring me to tears. Victor’s journey in building his confidence last season was influenced by his friendship with Simon and then Simon’s boyfriend, Bram. It’s moving to hear Victor want to be a mentor, a friend, a confidant for someone else. Plus, I’ll never get over Victor wearing Simon’s denim jacket. It’s such a nice thread tying the two characters together.
I’m so proud of Victor and every move he’s made to live authentically and love fully. He deserves a great love story, just like Simon, just like all of us. We’re going to see the next chapter of that love story on June 11, and I cannot wait.
Love, Victor has been a comfort show for me over the last year, and I am sure I’m not alone in that. So it’s reassuring to know that such an important and heartwarming show will be back in our lives in less than a month. The tagline “Fear less” makes me hope that Victor and his friends will stand in defiance of fear together so that they can live and love boldly. Sure, there will be bumps along the way, but that’s life. And what’s life without love?
