We figured some casting news were coming on Chicago Med, particularly because the One Chicago franchise has just resumed filming and we hadn’t yet heard anything about how the show would replaced departing cast members Torrey DeVitto and Yaya DaCosta. And we were right. It’s just …not what we expected. Or wanted. Or probably what the show needed.
Look, Chicago Med is already our least favorite One Chicago show. And the way the dynamics are shaping up, that doesn’t look like it’s gonna change anytime soon. Because their response to the loss of Natalie and April – in storylines that, if we’re being honest, were left hanging at the end of last season – was to …eh, to promote Steven Weber, who recurred as Dr. Dean Archer last season, to series regular ..and bring in another male character, and just one female one.
*le sigh*
Deadline was the first to report the news of the promotion, as well as the other two actors joining the cast: Guy Lockard, who will play Dr. Dylan Scott, a police officer turned doctor, and Kristen Hager, who will play Dr. Stevie Hammer, who’s described as both “brilliant” and “scrappy.” Both will be series regulars for season 7.
We’ll have to wait and see not just where these storylines are going, but how these new characters mesh with the existing ones, but we admit it, this isn’t what we expected. Or wanted. But hey, if we don’t have Will fighting – or sleeping – with anyone right off the bat, we’ll call that one a win. Can we at least do that?
The One Chicago franchise, which kicks off with Chicago Med at 8/7c returns Sep. 22 to NBC.
