It’s both a little surprising, and also more than a little inspiring to see people in the spotlight get candid about mental health. Celebrity, wealth or fame have never meant everything is fine, and that there are no struggles to be had, after all. And the pressure – internal and external – some celebrities have can be game-changing, in a bad way. So, truly, the more we discuss this subject without stigmas, the more we’ll be helping others be able to do the same, and so on. Which is why it was great to see Kit Harington discuss these issues on the Jess Cagle show.
“I went through, kind of, some mental health difficulties after Game of Thrones and during the end of Thrones, to be honest,” the actor confessed. “And I think it was directly to do with the nature of the show and what I’ve been doing for years.”
Kit went on to share that he took a long break after filming for the hugely successful HBO drama ended, and how glad he was that he did that. We’re sure all the talk around the finale couldn’t have helped, either. Fans (me included) weren’t too thrilled with the ending, but sometimes those frustrations are turned on the wrong parties, aka the actors, who had nothing to do with the story we saw unfold.
The actor, who will be back on people’s screens in just a few weeks with Modern Love , also discussed being more mindful about the roles he takes. “Coming back to work and deciding what to take, what to choose…doing this Modern Love episode was a bit like ‘You don’t have to live in that intense place all the time. Why don’t you do something that takes the weight off? Why don’t you do something fun?’ And that was part of my thinking on this one.”
