Ever since I found out Anne Rice’s book Interview With The Vampire would be turned into a series for TV, I’ve been watching all the news. When I tell you it’s been a long time coming for this to finally happen, believe me. There have been so many rumors over the years that Anne Rice’s books would be adapted but there were lots of false starts.
Knowing that cable network AMC has acquired the rights to her books puts me slightly at ease. For those of you that don’t know, the network has acquired the rights to books from two of her most popular book series Lives of the Mayfair Witches and of course The Vampire Chronicles which is the one we are most excited for.
Right now, the AMC series is in the pre-production phase, so you know what that means? casting announcements are A-coming and it looks like the series has found it’s vampire Lestat.
Sam Reid is set to portray the enigmatic vampire Lestat and after scouring Google for photos of him, we think he’ll be perfect. Like Lestat, Sam is a bit mysterious himself. He has no official social media accounts, so we don’t have too much to go on but hey, we think these photos of this Australian hottie speak for themselves.
See we told ya. Sam Reid is the third actor to portray the vampire Lestat since Tom Cruise in the 1994 film adaptation of Interview With The Vampire, and Stuart Townsend in the 2002 film Queen of The Damned. Both men were amazing, and we have confidence in Sam that he will be just as good. Based on his IMDb profile, he’s got a lot of acting credits under his belt.
With so many of Anne Rice’s books being adapted, we don’t know if AMC plans to keep Sam throughout the entire series because Lestat does pop up quite a bit in a few more books. It’s also interesting that they made this casting announcement first and not Louis when Interview With The Vampire is his story. We’re excited to get more details that’s for sure.
The first two episodes of Interview With The Vampire are set to be directed by Alan Taylor who will also be an executive producer for season one. We’re kinda excited about this news because he directed several episodes from season one and two of Game of Thrones. If you’ve been following our blog for a while, you already know how much we LOVE Game of Thrones (despite that season we never speak of). We’re already getting excited to see what the first two episodes of Interview With The Vampire will look like.
