Jim Gaffigan marks Thunderbolt’s first official appearance on Stargirl in 2×03, “Summer School: Chapter Three.” That seemingly ordinary pink pen from last season is far greater than any of the JSA could imagine. Well, everyone but Pat.
Courtney’s interactions with the pen haven’t been the greatest. For being a powerful weapon for the OG JSA, it would not work for Courtney Whitmore. It actually laughed at her failure. This time around, Thunderbolt appears to take a liking to Mike.
Mike has been scrambling to find a way into the superhero world since he learned what it was last season. Thunderbolt’s specific powers may be exactly what he needs to convince Pat (and the rest of the JSA) that he’d be an excellent addition to the team.
That small electric shock Courtney experienced when she touched the pen last season is nothing compared to what we see in the promo. Thunderbolt is full of energy, which could result in him causing some damage in the process of trying to do good.
Regardless of first impressions, Thunderbolt’s upbeat attitude and special abilities may be the boost the JSA needs to take on The Shade. It’s going to be an absolute thrill to watch this team band together again no matter if the JSA can defeat The Shade in just one fight.
Plus, Lea Thompson directed “Summer School: Chapter Three.” That’s another reason to believe this episode is going to be great. Thompson also directed the excellent Stargirl Season 1 Episode 7, “Shiv Part One.”
