I’m not exactly a western type girl. Like, I can count on the fingers in one hand how many westerns I’ve watched, or cared about. But if you throw Benedict Cumberbatch in a western, well, I might have to reconsider some of my long-held beliefs about the genre and give it a try. Especially if the western is called The Power of the Dog, because that’s just a good name, okay? Even if this has absolutely nothing to do with dogs.
The movie is based on the 1968 novel by Thomas Savage, and it stars Kirsten Dunst and Jesse Plemons alongside Cumberbatch.
Here’s the synopsis:
Charismatic rancher Phil Burbank inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.

The movie is scheduled to have its world premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 2, 2021. It will then have a limited release in November 2021, prior to streaming on Netflix on December 1, 2021.
