Everyone has an opinion about Selena Gomez, but personally, I believe that the good she does is amazing. She’s a role model for me, as she talks openly about her bipolar disorder, which I also have and makes me feel confident to talk about mine.
And so I do pay attention to her words. At the TCA Summer Tour this year she said something that made me think.
“I signed my life away to Disney at a very young age and I didn’t know what I was doing,” she had said.
Was her time at Disney bad?
Was she feeling confined by the studio?
There were so many questions that I had. But, I also knew that I would probably never get the answer to that. I thought it was dropped.
But the superstar is doing press for Only Murders In The Building and in a RadioTimes.com interview she expanded upon the comment.
“I was looking for another show to do…and by the way, I’m beyond proud of the work that I did with Disney as well. It kind of shaped who I am in a way,” she said in the interview.
But what I loved about the interview was her co-star Steve Martin jumped in to help her, “I have to jump in because I was there when Selena said that [at the TCA] and it was said in the most light-hearted, funny, jokey way…,” he explained.
He then continued, “And then I see it gets interpreted – sometimes they’ll say she was joking and sometimes they have it as an ominous headline – but it was completely just all in fun. I’ve signed my life away to Marty Short, you think I like that?”
Love seeing that they developed a close relationship and that he’s there for her is sweet. But we do love that Selena is able to speak for herself. She added, “As a female in my position, I was taken care of and I’ve only had lovely experiences, so I’m grateful for that.”
