December 3. Mark that date on the calendar because it’s the day that Alex Rider returns with its season 2! IMDbTV has just announced the premiere date but the surprises don’t end here, we also have the key art and the first teaser trailer for season 2 that is absolutely frantic and makes our hearts beat very, very fast. Ready?
Here we go!
Today, IMDb TV, Amazon’s premium free streaming service, revealed a first-look teaser for the second season of the fan-favorite spy series Alex Rider, which will be available to stream exclusively on the service starting Friday, December 3, in the U.S. and UK.
Produced by Eleventh Hour Films, Alex Rider is a spy-thriller series based on the popular book franchise written by Anthony Horowitz, which has sold more than 20 million copies worldwide. The series follows Alex, a London-based teenager who has unknowingly been trained since childhood for the dangerous world of espionage.
And now, it’s time for the teaser!
Exciting, right? We see Alex in a psychologist’s office, what he lived in Point Blanc was traumatic and he needs to talk to someone about it, even if he resists, he tries to convince himself that it is all over but what happens with trauma is that it never ends, not until you face it, and sometimes not even then. Alex feels that someone is following him … and we see that he is not imagining it.
A friend and her family are in danger and he becomes involved in MI6 again to try to save everyone, even if Jack doesn’t like it at all. She wants Alex to be a normal teenager… just that he is not. Not anymore. Speaking of friends, we see Kyra again! Apparently she and Alex are in the middle of a dangerous situation and must literally run for their lives. Will it be in this season when they take another step?
On the other hand, we see Tom shooting, it seems that he’s going to be much more involved than before in Alex’s new world. In fact, I think he felt powerless after his bitter experience with that world and he is trying to be prepared for what may happen, so he can defend himself in the way he needs to. I like it.
The teaser ends with Alex taking a deep breath and he’s a reflection of us because the teaser has barely let us breathe. We’re looking forward to enjoying season 2!
After analyzing the teaser trailer, let’s take a look at the key art.
I love it! Contrary to what happened in season 1 where only Alex was on the key art, this time Jack, Tom and Kyra are next to him, showing that Alex is no longer alone in this nor does he feel that way.
In addition, I think that by introducing these characters in key art, it’s shown that they will be more important in this season both in Alex’s life and in the world in which he now moves, that he has made his own. Alex may not be a normal teenager anymore… but he’s not going to leave the people he loves behind at any time. And Kyra being in key art just makes me think about the possibilities…
As a final gift to sweeten this Monday, Anthony Horowitz points out some key points of this season.
“After the success of Season One, I’m thrilled that we’ve been able to reassemble our fantastic cast for this second, action-packed adventure…with the added bonus of Toby Stephens in a key role,” said Anthony Horowitz, author of the Alex Rider franchise.
In Season Two, Alex is still reeling from the traumatic events at Point Blanc, and desperately wants to return to a normal life. But when his new friend Sabina’s father, journalist Ed Pleasance, is attacked by Yassen Gregorovich, the man who may have killed his uncle, Alex reluctantly finds himself drawn back into the world of international espionage. Cut loose from his one-time allies within shadowy MI6 division The Department, Alex discovers a link between Ed, a dangerous hacker known as Smoking Mirror, and tech billionaire Damian Cray. With the help of his guardian Jack and trusted friend Tom, Alex must unravel a sinister political plot with global repercussions, the answer to which may be locked within Cray’s latest product, the global phenomenon video game Feathered Serpent. This season is based on the fourth book in the franchise, Eagle Strike.
The second season of Alex Rider stars Otto Farrant as Alex Rider, Stephen Dillane as Alan Blunt, Vicky McClure as Mrs. Jones, Brenock O’Connor as Tom Harris, Ronkẹ Adékọluẹ́jọ́ as Jack Starbright, Marli Siu as Kyra, Toby Stephens as Damian Cray, Rakie Ayola as Jo Byrne, and Charithra Chandran as Sabina Pleasance. Horowitz serves as an executive producer alongside Eleventh Hour’s Jill Green and Eve Gutierrez, and series writer Guy Burt. The series is distributed by Sony Pictures Television.
The second season of Alex Rider will also stream exclusively as an Amazon Original on Prime Video in Australia, Canada, Italy, Germany, and Latin America on December 3.
