When we first saw the title for this week’s 9-1-1, we were kind of confused. Was “Ghost Stories” going to be a Halloween episode? Were ghosts going to show up? Not really. But the episode did focus on dealing with the past, or “ghosts” and trying to move forward. There was also a mystery with an ending we didn’t see coming. Let’s review.
Buried Alive
The beginning of 9-1-1 5×07 “Ghost Stories” set up the main plot for the episode. Edgar has been buried alive and has no idea where he is. And to make things worse, he was the victim of a carjacking and was shot. Luckily, the 118 and May are on it. May tells him to scream, and then Buck figures out where he is. He’s still alive when they pull him out from the ground, but this story is far from over.
Taylor and Detective Ransone (nice to see him in the land among the living) both think something’s weird about Edgar and his carjacking. They compete to see who can solve the mystery first. They discover that Edgar had 3 life insurance policies out on his wife, Lizzie, and she was furious when she found out. So Taylor thinks Lizzie did it while Ransone thinks Edgar is behind it.
We totally thought Edgar was behind all of this, and we were half right. It turns out that Edgar hired this guy Tom to kill Lizzie, but then Tom turns on Edgar because he thinks Lizzie is amazing. Lizzie decides she wants to kill Edgar, and Tom lures him out to the empty grave in the national forest, shoots him and buries him. We agree with Tom: both these people are crazy. At the end, Ransome asks Tom if he’s sure he wants to confess all of this without a lawyer, and thinks he’ll be safer in prison than around Edgar and Lizzie. He’s probably right.
This mystery was entertaining, but we have to wonder why Taylor was so invested in it. We know she’s a reporter, but there’s something else going on with her. It looks like something happened in her past that this case reminded her of. We want to know more, but we’re also kind of worried. What is she hiding?

Harry Forgives Athena?
Speaking of the past, Harry’s still reeling after what happened to him a few weeks ago. He’s still furious at his parents, especially his mother, for their role in his kidnapping. This leads Harry to return to where he was held captive and gets hurt. But he called Athena to come rescue him, and we’re really glad he did.
We’re also very happy that Harry decided to move back home with his mom. This makes us think that he’s on his way to recovering. And we know Athena will be happy to have her son back with her.
Searching for Maddie
The last time Buck talked to Maddie he thought he knew where she was. He shared this with Chim so he headed to Boston in search of Maddie. Chim informs Hen that Maddie was the happiest in her marriage when they were in Boston because she and her abusive husband hardly interacted. Chim thinks Maddie is chasing ghosts… or maybe he is.
Chim’s old friend that he runs into in Boston helps him realize a few things. Maddie’s depression has caused her to believe that everyone in her life is better without her. If she sees Chim looking terrible and like he’s been on a “month long binder” then she’ll think she was right. We initially really wanted Chim to find Maddie because that’s we thought she needed. But his friend could be right. Maybe Maddie just needs to finish her search for whatever she’s looking for. Then, when she’s ready, she can come home, and she and Chimney can start to mend their relationship.
But can someone just give Chim a hug already? He’s been through the ringer the last few weeks.

Other Thoughts:
- May has really stepped up in the last couple of episodes. She has stepped up her game at the call center, and she’s been an amazing big sister to Harry when he has really needed someone to talk to.
- We’re glad that Eva is clean and doing better, but can she stop showing up? It seems like every time she shows up, something bad happens with Hen and Karen’s relationship. Since she’s apparently leaving California, maybe this will be the last time we see her.
9-1-1 airs Mondays at 8/7c on Fox.
