The Rebelde revival is coming, whether we want it to or not. And personally, I admit I’m a bit torn. The original — and I do mean the original from Argentina, okay? — and later the Mexican remake, which is the one Netflix is continuing, were a big part of my formative years. My mom didn’t let me watch telenovelas, so all I watched of them was at friend’s houses, or sneaking around, but I still remember the vibe, the songs, everything.
And now, Netflix is hoping a new generation will similarly want to defy their parents to watch this show. And have an easier time doing it too, cause …Netflix.
To entice us, the streamer has released a trailer for the new show. If you’re not familiar with Rebelde, think Elite, but with music. High School Musical, but with less dancing. Just watch the trailer and you’ll see. And then maybe, you’ll join me giving this one a chance? I’m an adult now and I don’t have to do what my mom says anymore.
