Has anyone watched Yellowjackets? It’s been on our list of things to watch, but we admit that we haven’t gotten there yet. So much television, so little time (or something like that).
But it looks like it is something that we need to get into, because after airing only five episodes, Showtime has renewed the show for a second season.
“It’s done extremely well in terms of streaming subscriptions,” Showtime’s President of Entertainment, Gary Levine said. “It was our second biggest series debut ever on streaming, and it’s grown each week on streaming by double digit percentages. In terms of acclaim, in terms of buzz – no pun intended — and in terms of hard numbers, this show has just exploded. For it to be embraced as quickly and as deeply as it was by both audiences and critics alike, that’s a little like catching lightning in a bottle — you can never anticipate that but boy, it’s awfully sweet when it rarely happens.”
Part survival epic, part psychological horror and part coming-of-age drama, this is the story of a team of wildly talented high school girls’ soccer players who survive a plane crash deep in the remote northern wilderness. The series chronicles their descent from a complicated but thriving team to savage clans, while also tracking the lives they’ve attempted to piece back together 25 years later. What began in the wilderness is far from over. Starring Melanie Lynskey, Tawny Cypress, with Christina Ricci and Juliette Lewis.
Does it sound like something you would watch? Should we be watching it? Sound off in the comments.
