We love Audrey Hepburn. We have always thought she was so gorgeous, and all of her films are amazing. Not only was she a film icon, but she was also an advocate for children’s rights, becoming UNICEF’s Goodwill Ambassador in 1989. Over her long career she earned EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) award status as well. She even received the Presidential medal of freedom. It should come as no surprise that someone is making a biopic about her, and we could not be more excited about that or who is involved.
Apple Studios is currently working on and producing the biopic with Rooney Mara set to play her. Rooney will also produce the film as well. The project which is untitled at this time will be directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Michael Mitnick. This pairing of Rooney Mara and Luca Guadagnino already has us ready to hand over our money. Now, we do recognize that this is yet another project about a woman being written by, and directed by a man but, we do think Luca Guadagnino will still do it the appropriate justice a story like Audrey Hepburn’s deserves.
We think Luca does a fantastic job with bringing films to life. He has an eye for the simplest details and his films capture the characters emotions beautifully. His films are all done in such a unique way, and he takes the time to allow his stories to fully flourish without rushing through them (See A Bigger Splash & Suspiria). That’s why we have confidence in what he will do with this film. And again, it doesn’t hurt that Rooney Mara is playing the lead.
Rooney Mara is not only a talented actress herself (see The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo & Carol) but also very conscious of everything she does when she takes on any projects. There’s no doubt in our minds that she will make sure an important film like this one will be done the right way. We also recognize that there are people out there who do not want Rooney Mara to play Audrey Hepburn. There are literally tons of Lily Collins fans online who are furious right now. We love Lily and we agree she also would have been a good choice, but Rooney is who got the part.

Personally, Rooney is it for me. I recently took a film class and one of the films we watched was Roman Holiday. As I watched the film, I couldn’t help picturing Rooney Mara as Audrey Hepburn in that role. There are so many similarities between the two of them. It makes me ecstatic to know that she’s been cast in the role because I know she’s going to crush it.
As of right now we don’t have any other details about this project or how deep into Audrey Hepburn’s life the film will go but trust us when we say we are going to be keeping our eyes on everything about it.
