Legends of Tomorrow 7×09 “Lowest Common Demoninator” puts the Legends through the hardest form of hell imaginable: Living in a Reality Show. This lets a lot of emotions come out of the team that have been boiling over. Secrets are revealed along with crushes and a little bit more of Spooner than even the Legends were expecting. So let’s dive into “Lowest Common Demoniator” by seeing how the reality show hell affected each member of the team.
GIDEON
After Gwyn accidentally opens a door in the manor, it lets a reality show filming crew in to raise each of the team’s emotions. Of course, on reality shows, everything is bumped up to the max so of course so are each of the Legend’s predicaments. Gideon deals with her newfound insecurities as a human being. Whether it’s being second-guessed on decisions or the lack of support with her relationship with Gary, this would make anyone vulnerable to being influenced.
Whether you enjoy the Gideon/Gary pairing, it’s let Amy Louise Pemberton have more moments to shine as Gideon. Seeing Gideon be a master manipulator via tricking the other Legends into fighting with each other was as fun to watch as the same tricks being played on “Big Brother” or “Survivor”. Let’s hope this version of Gideon shows up when the confrontation with the Evil Gideon happens.
SARA AND AVA
Avalance deal with a little bit of a marital spat that could fit in a series called “Real Housewives of the Arrowverse.” Sara is feeling a little bit of pressure and just wants a moment of peace. Except under the reality show hell influence, this makes Sara become a New Jersey-ish housewife who can’t stop talking about trips to Maui. Ava, on the other hand, is the put-upon wife who always feels neglected and overworked.
Even though it’s highly exaggerated here, I’ve enjoyed this season of Legends of Tomorrow showing just how normal a married couple Sara and Ava are. They have spats that they make up with each other over just as quickly. No marriage is 100% perfect and AvaLance’s isn’t either. But that’s what makes it real and great.
NATE AND ZARI
Nate and Zari end up on the Jersey Shore side of reality hell as a simple moment turns into a full-scale argument. Another positive of this season of Legends of Tomorrow has been them not shying away from the awkwardness of Nate in love with Zari 1.0 while having to work and live with someone who looks exactly like her. Zari also brings up that Nate might not want to move in with Zari 1.0. (No lie, if Nate backs out of moving into the totem, then he can just go away and never come back.) They revert back to normal but the image of Nate as a big muscle-head with the hair to match will live on forever.
BEHRAD AND ASTRA
The biggest thing to come out of “Lowest Common Demoniator” is Behrad finally letting his feeling known about Astra and himself in general. Behrad’s moment of truth stops the reality show and sends the hidden film crew out of the house and back to hell. Now I’ll fully admit to not being the biggest Behrad fan but his speech was one of the best moments of the season so far.
As for Astra, seeing her continued character growth is fantastic. Remember when we first met her, all she had in her heart was hate for John. Now she’s grown to someone who has found people to care for in the Legends. A best friend in Spooner. A crush to boyfriend in Behrad. She’s finally found the family she’s needed for almost her entire life.
CONCLUSION
After everyone goes back to normal, Gideon stands up for herself and asks the Legends why they can’t accept her and Gary being together. Unlike me, they accept it and Gideon then tells them her plan. Save Archduke Ferdinand and stop World War I! Sure that’s a fixed point and might screw up the future but honestly……..could it get any worse?
LEGENDARY THOUGHTS
- It was great seeing Zari 1.0 even for a brief moment. I can’t get enough of her and Nate together. Only hope we actual get to meet all the Aunties she references all the time.
- With this episode now, Legends of Tomorrow has hit every genre of tv every made.
- Sara gives Gwyn a IOU that says he can save one person in the past. Who would you pick if you got one of those?
- Having Spooner be nude the whole episode was as good a homage to Survivor as Legends could do .
- Astra saying “Men are Idiots” then it going to Nate lifting weights was A+ comedy at it’s finest.
Legends of Tomorrow airs on the CW on Wednesday Nights at 8 pm.
