Squid Game has been renewed for season 2. According to Variety, the second season was officially given a green light by Netflix. Ted Sarandos, the Co-CEO and Chief Content Officer at Netflix confirmed it during an earning interview for the streaming services fourth quarter.
When asked about whether the South Korean drama would return for another season he said, “Absolutely.” Now a confirmation is enough for us. We absolutely loved what we saw in season one. It was fresh, different, and exposed an underbelly of economic disparity not often talked about.
But wait, there’s more!
Not only did Sarandos confirm that there was another season of the violent survival drama. He also said, “The Squid Game universe has just begun.” That is where our minds were blown. A Squid Game universe? In this crumbling world and economy? The stories they could tell!
Squid Game is the company’s most-viewed TV series on Netflix. It tells the story of a cast of characters who have fallen down on their luck. A predatory game of life and death promises a way to get out of this rut by playing a series of children’s games, including Squid Game.
“There’s been so much pressure, so much demand and so much love for a second season. So I almost feel like you leave us no choice!” creator Hwang Dong-hyuk told the AP after the critical success of the show. “But I will say there will indeed be a second season. It’s in my head right now. I’m in the planning process currently.”
And while Netflix, the creator, and the cast are probably excited for what a universe means and the stories that can be told, what does the internet think?

Whatever you may think, Squid Game was a powerhouse of storytelling that connect with lives all over the world. We can’t wait to see who we fall in love with, who we hate, and who we will cry l over in season 2.
