Elena always has a story to tell, and sometimes it is annoying, but it’s always a story that we can learn from. How she knows so many stories and retains all of the information, we’re impressed with and also wondering what kind of exercises that she does in order to remember so much information.
It’s truly impressive.
This weeks story – well, it was about friends. Friends that are so good that they tell each other everything. And sure, Elena’s stories are always elusive, but the thing is, even when they are, they still tell something in every carefully picked word and every picked place.
We’re dealing with Bank 5 today.
Now, I would have had a heart attack if I was in bank 5 and been the unlucky one that was picked to be locked in a vault and basically told that I have four hours to live, before I suffocate. The moment that the door closed on me, I would have just dropped dead and this whole story would have been over.
But hey, Elena chooses everything for a reason.
The movie opens with people in Times Square watching the news on the big screen. That is how you know that this is a television show, because no one in New York willingly goes to Times Square and no news is broadcasting there. And hey, if you are in Times Square, then I guarantee you that you are running through the crosswords of the world to get the fuck out.
Elena may be captured and at Fort Totten, but that doesn’t mean that she didn’t go in not having a plan. She interrupts the broadcast to introduce herself to New York and tell them that she’s taken over seven banks and the only person that she will negotiate with is the ENN news anchor, Tyler Erickson.
But lets break down all the stuff and how we got here.
THE SWAN
Tyler is an ego maniac, one where he can’t see that he’s ever done anything wrong, thinks that he’s untouchable, and believes that everyone in America trusts him. That’s the first sign that he’s a raging douchebag who needs to be bitch slapped.
When Elena interrupts his broadcast and says that she will only negotiate with him, I have to admit that my mind starts spinning. What did he do? He’s confident that he’s not caught, that no one knows what has happened in his past. But hey, if there is one thing that I have learned from this show is that someone always knows what you have done.
He agrees to go into the bank, upset that he can’t bring his camera crew, but at the same point that is okay to him. Why? Because there is a camera in there and he knows that he will be broadcast.
Be careful what you wish for Tyler.
Elena’s crew sits him down and has one question for him – tell them about the swan. Now, that’s a little – okay a lot – elusive, so we’re gonna need more information.
Tyler is a squirmy squirrel, keeps repeating that he doesn’t know what they are talking about. But hey, don’t you worry Tyler, Turner is out there figuring out what is going on.
But before we get there, let us take a second to talk about Doak. Boss Dude is one that should be in the bank negotiating, because he’s definitely a shady shit. The man is trying to be a hero versus really listening and taking in what the team is doing. But part of me thinks that he may be working with Elena, because he’s always playing right into her hands, but mostly I don’t want to believe that, because it’s easier to believe that he’s just a dumb fuck.
The only thing that annoyed me about this episode, is that it’s as if Turner is being spoon fed everything and figuring out the clues is easy for her. I am like isn’t anything a challenge to her? Yes, I know that she’s good at her job. I get it. But like hey.
One thing that I have learned with this show is everything means something.
Next to the bank, there is a storage place, where there is a fire. One thing Elena says to Turner is where there is smoke there is fire. Well, like no shit Sherlock. But this clue leads Turner to a storage place, where she finds a dead body, and that body leads back to Tyler Erickson.
Elena had set it up so that the person in the vault was the friend of the girl who died. Being as the story is about friends, the one Elena is telling, Turner asks the girl that they managed to save from the vault if she knew Ming (the woman they found). She did. And she tells her that the last thing she texted was “1641” and never knew what it meant.
Well Turner does – its a safe deposit box. And in that box, is Ming’s laptop, which leads to Tyler getting arrested.
Granted, Tyler deserved to be arrested. He murdered someone. But don’t think for a second that it didn’t tie back to Elena. See, Tyler took money from a rival crime family, the ones that Elena hates.
So… is anyone shocked that she outted them? Not me.
Elena is always 5 steps ahead.
ARGENTINA
Ok, the picture that was found last episode – the one of Owen, Elena and Sergei? Well we learn about it.
Now, it’s no shocked that Turner is having the photo analyzed. She is so loyal to Owen, even when he tells her to stay away. I can respect that. Love is a strange thing.
While nothing in the photo is really identifying for her or Anthony to pull from, she figures out that it had to have taken place when he was in Argentina.
We have to remember that Owen was an FBI agent. Now we also see that he’s in jail, Sergei is with him and we don’t know why Elena set him up. We do get a look back when he was in Argentina, meeting Elena and Sergei while undercover.
Owen is charming. He carries himself with confidence and doesn’t act like he’s actually an agent. You would believe that he’s a man who really is looking to make an arms deal.
But he’s not.
The meeting is going well, but Elena notices other men in the restaurant that seem suspicious. A shootout ensues, and Owen was shot.
Shockingly, Elena and Sergey save him. And I say that I was initially shocked because I thought that they didn’t know that he was an FBI agent. But they did. They were impressed that he had found them.
Owen tells him that they need to let him go, but they just laugh off that he needs to do a checkin soon. But he’s not talking about his FBI handler. He tells them that he’s talking about his wife, and how she will come looking.
I have to admit that I had almost given up on Owen, but as I said, everything is a sign and Owen has given his wife one.
Last episode, when she went to visit him, he gave her a four leaf clover. She notices that there is a sticker of a four leaf clover on the side of one of her books at home. Opening it, she finds a thumb drive.
Wait? Is Owen working a long game for the FBI? What is he doing? What is on that drive?
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Who is this dude that recognizes Sergei?
- What is Owen up to? I am not trusting this situation.
- Anthony still seems like he is playing all sides to me.
- Elena and her confidence is all the yes. I love the confidence.
- The boldness of Elena telling the people of NY that they will love her. Girl, we don’t like lives being disrupted here.
- No one goes to Time Square willingly.
