Dylan O’Brien has opened up about not returning for the return of Teen Wolf via Paramount Plus. According to Variety, while promoting his new movie The Outfit, it was a difficult decision for O’Brien. Teen Wolf was the show that gave him his start and he’ll forever be grateful.
“It was a difficult decision. A lot went into it,” O’Brien said before continuing with, “The show couldn’t be more dear to me. It was the first thing I ever did I and so many people there are extremely dear to me.” And when it really came down it, he tried to make it work but he couldn’t, “It was something I was trying to make work but it all happened very fast.”
Now it’s the next bit that really gives one pause. O’Brien went on to explain that the Teen Wolf movie basically was thrown at him, making us question the planning behind this movie and how they probably thought he was automatically in. O’Brien said, “We didn’t really know that it was happening, and they kind of just threw it at us a little bit, which is fine because we all love the show. We were trying to figure it out.”
That doesn’t mean that he isn’t going to support the movie though. O’Brien cheered on his previous castmates by saying, “I wish them well and I’m going to watch it the first night it comes out. I hope it fucking kicks ass, but I’m not going to be in it.” And that, “Ultimately, I just decided it was left in a really good place for me and I still want to leave it there.”
It’s saddening news to fans who watched the show for Dylan O’Brien and his character Stiles Stilinski. For many, including this writer, he was the heart of the show and what kept us coming back, week after week, monster after monster. And with the Arden Cho situation where she was sidelined and not paid like her female co-stars, we’re wondering if this movie will shine or flop.
Teen Wolf: The Movie is set to be released on Paramount Plus.
