In an effort to build a space for queer people like myself, every Sunday (or when I’m feeling spicy) I’ll be posting interviews, opinion pieces, listicles, reviews, and more focused on the LGBT community from a Latina perspective. Welcome to Queerly Not Straight! Enjoy and leave a comment below if you have a suggestion for what I should cover next.

As someone who loves Teen Wolf, the latest entry into this world is an absolute disappointment. Teen Wolf: The Movie took Derek Hale, one of the series’ most beloved characters, and killed him. And I get it. There are plenty of characters that have died in this series and come back. Allison is standing right there after all. But the way that Derek died was senseless and showed a lack of understanding of his character and his journey.
Even if he does miraculously come back in this series, the damage is done.
We remember what it was to watch Derek suffer during Teen Wolf. He lost one family to a predator of the highest order. He fled with his sister, to only have that family ripped apart and away from him. The same thing happened with Erica, Boyd, and Peter a couple of times. And just when we thought he would be happy, living his best dad life with Eli, Teen Wolf: The Movie decided to step in.
This movie made it seem like it was the only road for Derek. And that he would one day end up here because he was the hero. And honestly, we say no to that. No to Derek dying a hero by fire aka the same thing that destroyed the Hales all those years ago. And no to leaving Eli alone to deal with his new powers, especially surrounded by those who never fought tooth and nail for Derek like Derek fought for everyone.
So, because I’m a Sterek shipper, I waited. I knew that fanfiction would be coming and that fanfic writers would save the day. They always do. There’s always been a connection between Derek and Stiles that spoke of more. And Teen Wolf: The Movie made it a point to talk about Derek’s complicated feelings for that Jeep that just so happened to be Stiles.
The writing is on the wall and Sterek fanfic writers have been setting this whole mess straight by giving us fanfiction where Derek lives and Stiles is key to that. Because why wouldn’t you call the person who had their life shattered by the Nogitsune and probably carries the guilt of Allison’s death and have saved everyone a couple of times? Just a thought. So, without further ado.
Let’s dive into the Sterek fix-it fanfics that have brought me some peace.
First up, Sterek fix-it fics you can just dive into…
Summary: “Where is he?” Stiles rumbled, glancing at each member of the pack in front of him, before settling his incinerating gaze on one person he once considered a brother. “Tell me, Scott, where is my husband?”
Summary: The Nemeton sends Derek through a portal to Stiles’ work apartment in DC. But it wasn’t solely the power of the Nemeton that got him there.
Once More Into the Abyss by AleishaPotter
Summary: Just a short fix-it drabble. My own headcanon on where Eli Hale came from and how Stiles is going to storm the afterlife to bring his Derek back. We all need some fix-its. Enjoy this small option and ignore the Movie canon. A cautiously optimistic ending.
Summary: Stiles got a text from Chris Argent telling him what was going on, and Stiles dropped everything at work and rushed to Beacon Hills. He needed to find his son, Eli, and his husband, Derek. When he got there, the worst had happened, it was his worst nightmare come true. His magic built and built until he got the chance to save them all.
Lets hurt tonight by slut4sterek
Stiles comes back for his husband and son. He saves lives like he always does.
Where Derek fakes his death…
drive highways and byways to be there with you by whenwordsmakesense
Stiles helps Derek fake his death so they can get away from the Hellmouth that is Beacons Hills. It’s addressed as to WHY Derek would ever let Scott and Allison raise his kid and WHY Stiles would totally abandon Roscoe. Also, John totally knows.
Where it was all a nightmare…
Medically Induced Nightmare by RxSterek
The events of the movie never happened. Instead, it was all a dream after a work accident that happened to Stiles. When he wakes up he’s surrounded by family. Bonus points for Derek calling Stiles “babe” and for them once against questioning the events of the movie and how it definitely had to be a dream because who would be that stupid?
Where we address how Eli looks like Stiles…
The entire Teen Wolf team gets a talking to about the events of the movie, especially Scott. There’s also the fact that Derek opens up about the little fact that Eli looks, talks, and acts like Stiles. And is obsessed with Roscoe like Stiles was. Families are formed, confessions are made, and the future is looking bright.
The one with the Supernatural title…
Gay love can pierce through the veil of death and save the day by TalesoftheEnchantedForest
The one where Sterek love brings back Derek. Because if Allison can be resurrected, then so can Derek. And if there’s anyone who deserves to be fought for, it’s Derek. When he is brought back there’s cuddling, talking about Derek’s kaleidoscope eyes, and where Derek knew that Stiles would come for him.
And where the Sourwolf is welcomed home…
In the Name of Love by ReginaNocis
Stiles doesn’t let being too late stop him from doing everything he can to bring back Derek. Because who has more unfinished business in this realm? Derek does. So Stiles fights for his husband, pulls him back into this world, and plans on talking to him about his self-sacrificing. Because that totally needs to stop. Oh, and a splash of Liam, his guilt, and Stiles acknowledging that he’s definitely going to get him the therapy he needs.
What Sterek fanfics have you read to time you over after that ending from the movie? Let us know in the comments section below!
