Everything is changing with Upload, but the good part of it is that we are finally getting answers. That’s something that we can get behind, because it feels like this means that we’re finally pivoting to solving issues, rather than there just being issues to solve.
Don’t get me wrong, solving the issue of why Nathan was murdered is important. It’s something that needs to happen and we are 100% behind solving. But we want it to go beyond that and it feels like with this episode, we’re finally being set up for that to happen.
With Nora and Nathan knowing that Choak is involved with the murder, the question goes to why. Why did he want Nathan dead?
Well, we’re going to find clues, as Choak is downloading to a robot so that he can be present at a meeting at his company. Nora hears this and tells Nathan that he needs to on a ‘guided virtual tour,’ and request her as his guide. She doesn’t tell him why, but she doesn’t really need to. See, Nathan will do whatever she asks, because he loves her, and we’re swooning over that.
Nathan puts a cramp in the situation by inviting Luke to come with him. This though means that Aleesha will need to come and we loved any interaction with them. Luke and Aleesha would be great together if they could be together.
Meanwhile, Ingrid has a surprise coming her way. She’s getting a home visit from Ivan, AI Guy, and Tinsely to see if she’s fit for a digital baby. While she’s not kind about any of it and wants to know why she’s being judged and what qualifies them to judge her.
Ingrid feels judged by so many people in her life that the thought of these people judging her makes her angry. But when she realized that she’s being graded, she lets them in. She still really doesn’t get it and isn’t really kind about it, but she lets them in.
When Nora finally tells Nathan why they are out, he becomes more interested and does his best to guide Luke to where they need to go. Aleesha is so annoyed, and doesn’t like the fact that she’s here. But she likes it even less, when she finds out that she has had the most boring day ever so that Nathan and Nora can go after their murder obsession.
The thing is – this is a huge moment. It’s going to change everything between Aleesha and Nora, which will drive Aleesha more towards Horizon. And though you want to believe that Aleesha will be loyal to Nora, the reality is, who knows. Anger and money can be a big game changer.
What I do love about these moments is that Luke gives Aleesha a pep talk that shows he genuinely cares about her, and I do believe that is a win that they both needed.
But what Nathan and Nora learned is also a win they needed.
What Nora and Nathan find out is that Freeyond has one office in New York – which makes no sense. BUT, if there is only one, this means that it’s political. They’re placing Freeyond in strategic places that can swing an election. But how does this work? Those who have been uploaded can’t vote, and the poor are going to choose to live a life of luxury instead of the world they live in now. So if they get all of the poor to upload, they are securing the elite into positions of power?
Back at Lake View, Ingrid had to temporarily leave her upload, as her Mom and brother arrived to check on her. Ingrid is definitely letting herself go and her Mom is just being cruel.
But it does push Ingrid to know that she’s going to be better. So when she returns to her upload, only the AI is there, and he tells her that he knows that she’s alive and wants to know why it is that she is pretending. She tells him that it’s because she loves Nathan and wants to be with him.
The AI sees this as a love that is so unconditional, which is what they would want for her to be able to show a baby, she he approves her for one. Ingrid swears that she’s going to be a better Mom than hers, and to be honest, even though I think that she’s full on lost it, this is something I do believe that Ingrid will be.
What we do find out this episode is the biggest secret Ingrid has been keeping. She’s growing Nathan’s body in Los Angeles for him to be able to download to. We see her at the end visit the clinic to talk to the body.
Girl is going to have some explaining to do.
Season 2 of Upload is streaming now on Amazon Prime.
