I get that Upload is a fun show, but you can’t tell me that it doesn’t make you think. Technology is a scary thing if you really think about it. The whole concept of big brother, people reading your thoughts, the possibility of what could happen.
There are always possibilities.
And when you’re dead, what are you supposed to do? How can you fight back? You consciousness is uploaded, but you have no way to change code, you have no way to fight back, you are literally being taken care of by someone on the other side of a computer screen.
But I digress, because we’ll need to discuss this episode before any of that makes sense.
Ivan, Matteo, and Nora are talking and by that I mean Nora is trying to reason with Matteo. She wants to know why it is that he so blindlessly follows Pastor Rob. It’s because they have the same enemy.
Look, I get not liking the rich at times. Especially those that do not do anything constructive with their riches, but rather become assholes with it. But the Uploads are still someones sister, brother, grandparent, etc. No everyone is a bad person because they had money.
But Matteo is being a straight up dick. Like I don’t even know how Nora doesn’t slap him. But she does see that they need space, and when she tells him that – by handing him a pillow, he puts a blanket on top of it – thinking that the pillow is for her. Shows how self fucking centered he is, but I applaud Nora, because she isn’t having his shit. Instead she tells him he needs to sleep in the hallway.
That’s right – put his ass out where he belongs.
Back at Lake View, Nathan and Luke are having breakfast and well, Luke has digital insomnia. He feels as though when he sleeps, his dreams are being taken from him and he is definitely not down for this. Nathan thinks that he’s crazy, but little does Nathan know, Luke really isn’t far off.
Aleesha shows up, trying to deal with Luke. The dynamic between Aleesha and Luke is always a good time. They are funny to me, because they are so similar and yet they both think that they are completely different.
They aren’t. Aleesha is trying to reason with Luke, but there is no reasoning with Luke. When Aleesha tells Lucy about Lukes dream theory, Lucy confirms it. Horizon is taking peoples dreams. Apparently, they are then uploading the dreams to the web and making money off of these dreams.
This creeps me the fuck out. Like what if people could take your dreams and put them on the internet? Fuck that. I mean, we all have varying degrees of dreams, but like my sex dreams are not something I want out there. Hell, my dreams where I sit by myself and stare at the sun are things that I wouldn’t want out there.
But Horizon is a money hungry corporation and they give no fucks.
With the cyber attack that had happened, the government has eased laws and Horizon is now going to be allowed to take screenshots and listen in on uploads thoughts. This is a scary situation, especially for Nathan, because if people know he has some of his memories, this is a bigger issue.
And Nora is going to protect Nathan at all times. That’s part of what I love about these two – they are devoted to each other.
Mind Frisk is a program that will allow them to listen in on thoughts and will effectively change everything. When Nora texts Nathan to meet, I admit I clapped. I love scenes with these two, figuring out how to change the world.
The two agree that they are going to try to learn more and figure out what Mind Frisk can do. And so later, Nora manages to stay late at work and bust into her bosses computer, finding out that he has an office at Lake View, which allows Nathan to meet her there.
While working together, the two have feelings that naturally come out, that they both try to deny. But there is a satisfaction on both their faces, knowing that the other has feelings.
What they do find out is that Choak was involved in Nathans murder. It’s interesting to me how everyone is so threatened by Nathan and he was so oblivious to it while alive. But, if anything I am happy to know that he’s on the trail of whomever is responsible for everyone who murdered him.
And remember the dude from the first season, the one that tried to kill Nora and that Nathan killed in the elevator? Well he’s been uploaded, and he’s trying to get Choak to upgrade him to Lake View. Choak won’t do it, but I am mentioning it, because I can see it being something in the future.
Nathan and Nora know that they have to stop Mind Frisk and they come up with a plan to put bugs in the system.
And one can’t help but laugh that part of that bug is making Choak’s thoughts available for everyone to hear.
Karma, Choak, you miserable man.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- Ingrid is trying to convince Lucy that she wants a digital baby. She of course wants the best of the best, and Lucy has to explain to her that isn’t the way it works. You have to go through the steps. And she doesn’t get what she wants, but it is kinda interesting to see her go through the steps and see her actually have emotion. I didn’t think she was capable.
- Luke isn’t sleeping and this is an issue. He is going a lil crazy and Lucy is having fun with this. She’s taking screenshots and Luke hears her.
- Aleesha being the subject of Lukes dreams and finding out his sex dreams about her are online – saw none of that coming.
- Aleesha trying to put Luke to sleep made me laugh for a bit, but girl is a genius how she got it done.
- Ingrid still remains well… annoying.
- Nora said she loves Nathan… YASSSSS! Admit that shit.
- Nathan looking at memories and thinking of sending it to Nora, I was like PLEASE SEND IT. I didn’t like it when he didn’t send.
