Netflix’s hit series Locke & Key is coming to an end…but not just yet.
According to Deadline, the upcoming season will be it’s last. For fans of the show, like us, this is a devastating blow. We have come to love the Locke family, went on all these adventures with them, and hoped to see them for many seasons to come. But unfortunately for us, this journey must come to an end.
It’s not like it’s all bad. This was apparently the plan for quite some time. Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill, the executive producers/co-showrunners of Locke & Key, were approached by Netflix with a plan for a three-season run. That means that this beloved show won’t just suddenly end. It will have a proper send-off.
In a statement, both Cuse and Averill said, “Once we began working on the series, we felt three seasons was the ideal length to bring the story of the Locke family and their Keyhouse adventures to a satisfying conclusion.” Just from this quote alone, you get an understanding of how important this show is for them.
But there’s more.
They went on to say, “As storytellers, we are grateful that we had the opportunity to tell our version of Joe Hill and Gabriel Rodriguez’s incredible story exactly the way we wanted. We’re keeping the magical keys, though, for our own personal use.” Which, we’re jealous of because we would absolutely love some of those keys.
Locke & Key is currently wrapping up post-production for the final eight episodes of the series. And according to Deadline, season 3’s principal cast includes Darby Stanchfield, Connor Jessup, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott, Brendan Hines, Sherri Saum, Kevin Durand, and Coby Bird.
