Music fans prepare yourselves; Coachella weekend is upon us. If you’re not familiar with it, Coachella is a huge annual music festival that happens in Indio California for two weekends. There are amazing performers lined up every year and what’s great is you don’t even have to leave your house to go. While there are several people who attend Coachella in person, even more spend the weekend live streaming the festival.
We are not knocking those of you who love going to Coachella in person because we too enjoy getting to experience live music that way. What we don’t love so much is desert heat, dust, and camping. Now, if we could get one of those fancy cabanas the celebs stay in, then we would be all for it. But, since we aren’t balling out of control, we’re happy to enjoy the festival from our lovely couches at home.
For those of you like us who can enjoy Coachella from the comfort of your home, we’re here to give you some tips on how to do “Couchella.”
1. Learn The Lineup
Okay, when we say learn the lineup, we don’t mean you need to know every artist playing because there are quite a few. What we mean is, learn who the headliners are. Most likely you would already know if you kept up with all things related to live music and Coachella.
This year there are some pretty epic ones. For the first time ever, Harry Styles, yes, we said Harry freaking Styles is headlining. We’re really excited about this. With his new song “As it Was” and his upcoming album Harry’s House, we know his performance is going to be incredible.
If you’ve ever seen Harry Styles live, you know he’s going to crush it. Billie Eilish who we love is also one of the scheduled headliners as well as Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd. This lineup is so great, and we are ready to get our dance on with all of these amazing people.
In addition to looking up who is headlining Coachella, you can also read the list of other artists performing because if you look hard enough, you’ll see a few familiar ones in there that you won’t want to miss. Another plus is you may even discover some new artists. I know I’ve become a big fan of certain artists after seeing them perform at Coachella.
2. Dress Up
Who says you can’t throw on your best festival look because you’re at home? You have to put on clothes, right? So why not dress in your Coachella best. Whether you go with the classic Coachella looks or just want to rock one of your favorite concert tees featuring one of the artists performing, the options are endless.
3. Get Food And Drinks
When you go to a festival, you need to refuel and hydrate. You can definitely do this at home. You can buy a whole bunch of snacks or festival themed foods and drinks probably for half the price of what you’d actually pay if you were in person. If you like alcoholic beverages, you can buy some of those too and even find a few drink recipes to re-create some. But also drink water because we need that to live. Just because you’re at home doesn’t mean you need to get dehydrated.
4. Invite Friends Over
Yes, we realize Covid is still running our lives but, we do have vaccines now so that’s something helping us reunite with our besties. If you feel comfortable enough and can do so safely, invite those friends to come and do “Couchella” with you. Live music is great but it’s even better with friends to enjoy it with. You can even have your friends stay over and set up a little camp-like vibe to give them a true Coachella experience.
5. Dance, Dance, Dance
One of the worst things about going to concerts and watching live music is people not dancing. Like, really, what did you go to the show for if you are not going to dance? If you’re at home, you can literally dance like no one is watching because you’re right in the comfort of your own home.
Just because you’re on your couch, it doesn’t mean you gotta stay on the couch. If a performer you love is killing it and you’re feeling the vibes, by all means get your booty off the couch and move. The best part is, you don’t have to worry about bumping into anyone.
6. Keep That Coachella Schedule Handy
Alright, one of the most important things you need to know about doing “Couchella” is making sure you keep your schedule of all the performers with you. You would likely do the same at the in-person event anyway. Coachella is being live streamed on three channels on YouTube, so you really need to keep an eye on times and channels to know when an artist you want to see is taking the stage.
Now, there are occasions when two artists you want to see could be performing at the exact same time so then the choice becomes which one you want to watch the most. You also need to pay attention to the times because if you don’t you could miss someone you want to see.

7. Have Fun
Last thing is pretty obvious, have fun. The pandemic stole a lot of things from us over the past two years including live music which we have really just started getting to enjoy again. Coachella hasn’t happened for two years, so we know this one is going to be big, and one people won’t forget. Take it all in. Appreciate every single moment of it and just let go.
