Idris Elba, known for his standout role in Luther, is joining Apple TV+’s Hijack.
The tense thriller drama sees Elba as a hostage negotiator. And it’s his latest TV series, with his last two being In the Long Run and Turn Up Charlie. Elba doesn’t usually do TV so this Apple TV+ project has to be a special one, besides the temptation of the danger and drama that comes with being a hostage negotiator on TV.
A lot of the attraction of Hijack is the fact that Lupin writer George Kay is on board. For those not in the know, Lupin is a smash hit on Netflix that tells the story of a conman and thief who sets out to avenge his father after an injustice occurred to him and his family thanks to a wealthy family. It stars the talented Omar Sy as Assane Diop.
And if Kay can flesh out and bring to life an amazing character like Assane, imagine what he can do with Elba’s character Sam Nelson. This negotiator is an accomplished business negotiator who sees his life turned upside down when he’s confronted with a hijacked plane making its way to London. He has to use every skill he’s learned along the way to save the lives on board.
While Idris Elba is taking on this monumental role, Kay is writing the script and Jim Field Smith is directing.
