Speaking from experience, blood clots are terrifying. You don’t know what is happening, but you know that something is, and you can’t control your body.
Hailey Bieber experienced a blood clot earlier this year and while we new it happened, we hadn’t heard about it from her. But the super model took to the internet and told her story in a powerful video.
And yes, I say powerful, because it’s vulnerable, true, and will help others to recognize their symptoms.
On March 10th, Hailey was having breakfast with her husband when something went terribly wrong. She felt a strange sensation in her arm and found herself unable to speak.
“Definitely the scariest moment of my life,” Hailey said in the video about the incident. “I had so many things running through my head, number one being, ‘I’m having a stroke. I’m really scared, I don’t know why this is happening, am I going to have permanent issues from this?’”
Bieber was diagnosed with a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which is sometimes called a “mini stroke.”
The incident occurred after what doctors called the perfect storm of factors and also led to Hailey finding out that she had a small opening in her heart known as, patent foramen ovale (PFO).
Bieber had surgery recently to repair the PFO. Bieber encouraged those watching to pay attention and take control of their health. Your body is sending you signals, don’t be afraid to be an advocate for your own health.
“If there’s anybody out there who sees this and has experienced similar things but doesn’t really know the reason why, I would definitely encourage you to talk to a doctor,” she said.
