In all honestly, we thought we’d seen everything when it comes to slashers. There’s the classic tale of a turkey on a rampage in ThanksKilling. A tire destroying people’s lives, one death at a time, in Rubber. And then there’s the twisted tale of an evil snowman in Jack Frost. But somehow, the filmmakers as a whole are surprising us once again with Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.
According to the IMDB page, “It follows Pooh and Piglet as they go on a rampage after Christopher Robin abandons them.” We always knew that Christopher Robin would outgrow his friends in the forest and live a normal life. Those stories have been explored before. But never before have we seen what feel like crack!fic come to life in such a manner like this. And it’s kind of brilliant.
Having wrapped this May, according to Variety, this slasher also released its first look images at Winnie the Pooh and his buddy Piglet. To say they look horrifying is an understatement. They look like someone went to town on one of those generators to see what you and your celebrity crushes baby would look like. But this is just Winnie the Pooh and Piglet, the actual creatures they’re based on, and a human. And it’s horrifying.
We’re equal parts terrified and interested in what’s to come of this. Especially when director Rhys Waterfield confirmed to Variety that, “because they’ve had to fend for themselves so much, they’ve essentially become feral.” Waterfield continued by saying, “So they’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey.”
But what does the internet think of this development? Because if this is what happens when stories go into the public domain, imagine what comes next? Either way, some people are absolutely here for it, especially because it’s rated R.
Others were savage and asked why Winnie the Pooh looks like Fat Joe?
Some questioned who the hell saw Winnie the Pooh as a kid and went, “Yeah, they should make a horror movie out of that!” Basically, they don’t want it and is nothing sacred anymore?
And some had mad respect for making trashy movies with the same actors and subpar acting.
Oh and someone had the brilliant idea to play this movie on a Winnie the Pooh TV because imagine watching something horror on that bad boy!
Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey is in post-production.
