So, the latest Scream 6 casting news is all about Dermot Mulroney coming to, well…not Woodsboro, apparently. (In case you missed it, the survivors are off to college, kind of like last time we got a sequel to a film simply called Scream.) What that means for him is anyone’s guess—except for the part where, considering what little bit we do know so far, the news is probably…not entirely good.
We actually can’t put it any better than Variety did:
“Mulroney is said to be playing a cop. (Good luck with that job, pal.)”
No, but really.
Ghostface and cops don’t mix—especially in sequels. In fact, if we’re doing any kind of homage to the first sequel, we’re looking at Dermot Mulroney, and whoever his partner (assuming he has one) might be, getting cut from Scream 6 in epic fashion. Or, we can talk about the dead cops in Scream 4 if y’all would like…
Even Dewey wasn’t immune to the latest killer’s charms, so. Yeah…Rest in pieces to Mulroney, we guess.
Then again, if Scream 6 wants to go super hard on the ACAB line, we guess his character could always be Ghostface. After all, that would certainly bring a new spin to things. Mulroney has played some recent baddies, so it’s not exactly out of the question. (And, for the record, at the risk of being corny AF, we’d scream if they went this route.)
But, then again, he’d still wind up dead. It would just be at the hands of Sidney Prescott and Gale Weathers—or, perhaps Sam and Tara Carpenter—instead of at the knife of Ghostface, right? Right.
Regardless, we’re obviously looking forward to seeing what happens next in one of our favorite slasher franchises. So, as we wait, let the crazy theories fly. What are we thinking? Killed in the line of duty while escorting college students to Ghostface-free “safety”? The new Dewey (as if there could ever be one)? Or…something worse?
