I think that we’re all on the same page here and have been when we say that Thomas Seymour is a hot mess. It’s understandable that he’s basically lost his mind, cause like his wife just passed away and he won’t even let anyone mention her name.
We’re entering the fifth episode of the series and here’s what we know about Thomas and Elizabeth – they are all kinds of wrong for each other. They are both driven – in my opinion – by their hormones, but what makes Thomas’ drive even scarier, is that you have to add to that a drive for power and pissing his brother off. All of this makes for a really scary fucking man.
THE WARNING SIGNS
Not that Elizabeth is old enough to see the warning signs of a man standing outside her window in a garden for three days, apparently, but she should be. And Kat definitely shoulda be like no girl, that’s a red flag. But that’s where we open – Thomas sitting outside her window and Elizabeth tells her team to bring him in.
GIRL, you just got people to calm down at court, from all the shit that they were talking and you are inviting a grown ass man into your house? We gotta play this game of court smarter than that. It doesn’t suit your needs to do that. YOU deserve your reputation to be on the up and up and not tarnished by a dick that seems to fall into every woman in a position of power.
Elizabeth listens to his ramblings and says that he’s only there because Catherine is dead. Harsh truths, but truths none the less. Thomas is not wanting to hear it though, going on and on about how he loves Elizabeth and how he wants to marry her. She of course, says no, like the smart girl that she can be. But even Thomas calls her out for changing her mind all the time. It’s part of who she is.
BOULOGNE
The Lord Protector has put Pedro in Mary’s place as a spy, but well, unless you’ve been blind, you’ve seen where Pedro’s allegiance lies. He has so much in common with Mary, and wants to be there for her.
We should all hope that we are lucky enough to get a person like that in our lives.
Pedro brings the French ambassador in, who wants to talk a lot of shit, but I can respect that. Having a good shit talking is a part of life. It’s a right of passage, I believe.
But what the Lord Protector does is some seriously stupid shit. He’s trying to cover up his seriously failing war in Scotland and the fact that he’s driven the country to basically having no money cause of it. But like dude, you have to remember Lord Protector, you still have someone to answer to.
Thank God we have Pedro, who is playing both sides and tells Mary what is happening. If you think she’s gonna sit and just like take this shit, there is another thing coming. She’s going to tell her brother what is happening. She’s going to be harsh and truthful.
Here’s the thing that the Lord Protector doesn’t ever seem to get – Mary, Edward, and Elizabeth are close. Sure, their lives are fucked up, but they all do love each other. And in his life, Edward has known that Mary will be honest with him. It’s part of who she is, but it’s also that Mary knows how to play the game.
And she’s definitely not backing down. There’s a limit to what Edward can do, but if you think for a second that he doesn’t hate his uncle when he finds out and if you think that he’s like not going to want revenge? Well you haven’t been paying attention.
ELIZABETH SAYS YES
We need to work on Elizabeth’s self esteem and decisiveness, because going right back to court and being drawn in by Thomas’ bullshit? Not a smart move.
I do believe that Elizabeth’s, Mommy and Daddy issues are going to do nothing but cause her a shit ton of pain and that’s not a good thing. She gives in and says that she will marry Thomas, that she loves him. Does she though? Is love enough? Who knows?
This person. I know that love ain’t enough.
He begs her to marry him in private, so no one can say anything about their nuptials. But she’s not having it – no matter how much he tries. She wants him to go to bat for her. She wants to be married in the open. She wants the councils approval.
Elizabeth doesn’t know what she’s doing at court. She doesn’t know how to play the game. She should have listened to Thomas. He does know what happens at court.
There’s a part of me that admires Thomas for trying to get permission but is also saddened for him that his brother is so cruel to him. And then when his brother decides that this means Elizabeth needs to get married off for strategic reasons, she’s pretty pissed.
And she tells Thomas that he needs to move fast, because his brother is going to marry her off.
THIS IS WHY WE DON’T TRUST
Thomas shows up at Elizabeth’s and he’s told her that he’s got a plan. He needs her to have faith in him. Girl, I wish that someone would tell you that inviting him into your chambers was a bad idea. I get that we all need a quickie sometimes, but there ain’t no dick that good.
And you can tell she ain’t enjoying it.
He tells her that he will be back in the morning, that he has a plan. What he doesn’t tell her is that he’s decided that he’s going to kidnap the King to free him from the Lord Protector.
Thomas doesn’t think and don’t you know that’s going to be the downfall for him? He shoots Edwards dog dead and says that he was testing security. But the council – they say he was trying to murder Edward.
And that results in Kat and Elizabeth getting arrested as if they had some part of this.
No.
Thomas! Elizabeth, you shoulda listened to yourself. Nothing about this can be good. Thomas Seymour is bad news.
And now it may cost you everything.
OTHER THOUGHTS
- 100% ship Mary and Pedro. Would not be sad if some shit went down with them.
- Daddy Dudley likes to tell his sons how they fall short, and that’s just like ick.
- Also what is Daddy Dudley trying to prepare them for?
- Elizabeth needs to learn to be more open with Robert Dudley. That boy wants nothing more than to have her back.
- Thomas trusting Henry Grey screams stupid move.
