The Flash is ending after Season 9. The news, which was announced today, comes as no real surprise for the lone surviving show of the original Arowverse. And honestly, at this point, is anyone even …sad?
Once upon a time, we loved the show. And we still enjoy parts of it. When Candice Patton gets to be the Queen that she is. WestAllen. But in the last few seasons, the show has become unrecognizable, and if we add to that the continued headlines over the show’s treatment of its leading lady — something most people familiar with the show knew and turned a blind eye to for a long, long time — well, it felt like time. Nah, it was probably long overdue.
This, of course, means the Arrowverse is pretty much done. Superman & Lois still lives, at least for one more season. Stargirl Season 3 premieres at the end of the month. But other than those two shows, which always felt very separate from the rest …the Arrowverse is dead. Or, it will be, as long as The Flash concludes its truncated 13-episode Season 9.
Maybe, in some years, we’ll be able to look at it and remember the good things it brought us. For now, let us hope Barry Allen, and especially, Iris West, get the happy ending they deserve as the show bids farewell. And let us hope Candice Patton moves on to bigger, and better things.
Production for the final season of The Flash will begin in September.
