Passionflix’s latest project This Man, based on the book by Jodi Ellen Malpas, is no longer going forward.
The film world is one that is full of many unpredictable circumstances. Just because a project is greenlit, that doesn’t mean it will actually come to fruition. There are a lot of reasons that some projects don’t happen, and we may never truly know what those reasons are.
While we are sad to hear the news about This Man, we can’t say we’re surprised. Back in March, it was announced that Tyler Cook would portray the mysterious Jesse Ward. Then, one month later, just before filming was set to begin, we found out that Kristy Dawn Dinsmore would be playing leading lady Ava O’Shea. Soon after that, the movie began filming in London.
It seemed like things were going well. But about one week into filming, Passionflix took to their social media accounts to let fans know that Kristy Dawn Dinsmore had dropped out of the film. Since that time, the production has been on hold. We assumed, as other fans probably did, that they were on the hunt for a new actress to take on the role of Ava. Clearly, that was not the case since we now know that the film is not happening at this time.
Passionflix and author Jodi Ellen Malpas both took to their Instagram accounts to release a joint statement sharing the news. The statement reads, “It’s with heavy hearts we share that at this time, we will not be moving forward with the current production of This Man. We are taking time to regroup and determine a course for the best adaptation of our beloved book. Jodi will be focusing on other projects and Passionflix will begin production on several other highly anticipated adaptations. This decision was not easy, but one we believe is best for all involved.”
The statement went on to say:
“We felt every ounce of your love, support and excitement for this project and we are so grateful for each and every one of you. We wish nothing but the best to everyone who has worked tirelessly on this project and look forward to what the future holds.”
While it is unfortunate that the This Man movie is not happening at this time, we think with all that has happened, it’s best to hold off until it can be the best version of the film. Assuming it does go forward at some point in time, of course. A lot of people love Malpas’ This Man series. So, it’s easy to understand the need and want to do it right. Whatever the outcome is, we’ll be here waiting for any news that comes.
