We will be the first to admit that we didn’t know that Partner Track was coming out until the trailer dropped. Yet, when we watched the trailer, we knew that this was going to be one of our new favorite shows. Why? Because it stars Arden Cho, and we’ve loved her for quite some time.
The girl is talented and has chosen roles that we have loved seeing her in.
The show, is based on a book of the same name and is about, ”At an elite NYC law firm, Ingrid Yun fights to make partner — and hold onto her principles — while balancing romance, friends and family expectations.”
We didn’t know what to expect, but when we sat down to watch the screeners, we found ourself barely moving for ten hours, because we kept finding ourself wanting to know what happened next. We needed to know what happened next.
And the show was the rom-com show that we needed in our lives. It was a slice of perfection – strong women, real life situations, New York, and a cast that we absolutely loved. But why should you watch it?
ARDEN CHO
We have to admit that we first saw Arden Cho in Teen Wolf and we loved her in it. But she’s so much more than that series. We ended up loving her watch line (Leonard & Church) and then we loved her in Chicago Med. We were anxious to see her in The Selection, but we don’t think that will ever be shown because we don’t seem to get what we want with that book series adaptation.
She’s a woman that we can look up to, because she stands for herself and paves the way for women. She knows her worth, she knows what she deserves, and won’t settle for anything less.
Arden Cho is an extremely talented actress. She captivates the screen when she’s on it. We’re team Arden, all day, every day.
FRIENDSHIPS ARE THE BEST SHIPS
You know how you see friends and the way are and you think, ‘wow they’re good friends, i want friends like that’. Well, Ingrid, Rachel, and Tyler are the best of friends and they have good times and bad. There is some good stuff that happens and some bad stuff, but what you see is – even the best friendships are flawed and people make huge mistakes.
But we all need to fix the mistakes that we make and learn from them. You also need to stand up for your friends, always. But you’ll see – those storylines play out and you’ll appreciate them.
DOMINIC SHERWOOD AND THAT ACCENT
Now, most people assume that we don’t like Dom’s acting, because we spent a shit load of our time remarking on how horrible Shadowhunters was. But we never said it was the acting, cause it wasn’t. It was the writing.
But seeing Dom Sherwood in a more grown up role, one where he shows a different side to his acting, makes us appreciate him even more (and not just cause he’s easy on the eyes). The truth is that there are many hot guys in this series, but that’s not all Dom has to offer. He proves that he can be a leading man/love interest and breaks out of the teen mold.
We love that for him.
THE STORY LINE
The storyline for this series is something that we love. It is about Ingrid, but it’s about so much more. There is so much to find out about every character and they all play into the storyline. If you’re looking for a show that feels like there is someone in there for you to relate to, that feels like you’re watching a group of real life friends, where you are cheering (sometimes out loud) for others – this is it.
Even the secondary storylines will keep you captivated and not many shows can do that. But Partner Track can.
THE SLOW BURN
We knew in twenty minutes the ships we had for several characters and we were committed to each and every one of them. We’re still committed to each one of them. But the show knew that we need a mixture of relationships and that we needed to have them play out differently. Why? Because if they were all the same, the show would be boring. They knew when to slow burn, to speed up the burn, and when to extinguish it.
The show had such different characters that you knew that each character would have a different way of dealing with things. And we appreciate that they made the secondary characters feel just as important as the main characters. There were stories to be had for all of them.
NEW YORK CITY
If you live in New York City, you know that it’s New York City or nowhere. This city has a magic that we can’t explain, but we love it, we feel it, we embrace it. Seeing the city on screen reminds us of just why we love it.
New York is a character in every show or movie that it is featured in. It’s definitely part of this. Ingrid came to New York with a dream. Murphy came to New York for many reasons, one being a fresh new start in mind. New York is part of what has changed them, motivated them, and kept them living.
THAT LAST EPISODE
We can’t even talk about that last episode, but talk about one thing after another. We were sitting on the edge of our seats, wondering what else that they could fit into this episode. That also being said – it did feel like a lot in one episode.
But when you love a show, you find yourself forgiving things that you wouldn’t normally do. We do feel that it could have been two episodes, but that being said, we still loved the episode. It set up season two perfectly.
Now we just have to get a season two. Who do we talk to about that?
Partner Track starts streaming this Friday on Netflix.
