Well, well, looks like we are finally going to bite the bullet and pull the trigger on Paramount Plus. Yes, we’ve hesitated because we seem to catch most everything we want to see on there, well… live. But now, the adaptation of On The Come Up by Angie Thomas is being released on the streaming service, so we’re handing over our credit card and telling them to take all of our money.
On The Come Up recently premiered at TIFF and now it is getting a limited theatrical release on September 22nd in the top 50 markets nationally with its release coming Friday, Sept. 23 on Paramount Plus.
On The Come Up tells the story of, “Bri, a 16-year-old gifted rapper who attempts to take the battle rap scene by storm in order to lift up her family and do right by the legacy of her father – a local hip hop legend whose career was cut short by gang violence. But when her first hit song goes viral for all the wrong reasons, she finds herself torn between the authenticity that got her this far and the false persona that the industry wants to impose upon her.”
On The Come Up stars Jamila C. Gray, Sanaa Lathan, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Mike Epps, Miles Gutierrez-Riley, Justin Martin, Titus Makin, Michael Cooper Jr., GaTa, and Cliff “Method Man” Smith.
Will you be watching? We definitely can’t wait.
