Angie Thomas is one of the best writers of our time. Her books are poignant, important, and will change your life.
Kenyan filmmaker Wanuri Kahiu has come on board to direct the big screen adaptation of Angie’s book On The Come Up. George Tillman, who had directed The Hate You Give, was originally set to direct the adaptation.
On The Come Up is about, “16-year-old Bri, who wants to be one of the greatest rappers of all time. As the daughter of an underground hip-hop legend who died right before he hit big, Bri has massive shoes to fill. But it’s hard to get your come up when you’re labeled a hoodlum at school, and your fridge at home is empty after your mom loses her job. So Bri pours her anger and frustration into her first song, which goes viral for all the wrong reasons.”
Wanuri Kahiu was also tapped to direct the adaptation of The Thing About Jellyfish.
