Chicago P.D. 10×03 “A Good Man” is probably the end of the road for Jay Halstead, and we’re going to be really, really honest …that just sucks. Not just in a “the character who has been the moral compass of the show is leaving” or even in a “there was no need to ruin a great ship this way” way, though there’s that. It sucks in the “this is not what the show had been building up way,” and that is, perhaps, the deepest cut of all.
We invest not just in endings, but in journeys. For shows to make sense, characters have to make sense — and where those characters are going also has to make sense. Jay Halstead wasn’t heading to an exit. Hank Voight was. So now, whatever happens, is going to feel wrong. Because Jay is leaving, yes, but also because he was never meant to leave us this way.
Let us pray it, at least, doesn’t completely ruin the character fans have come to love. We deserve better than that. Jesse Lee Soffer deserves better than that.

The team investigates a string of brutal pharmacy robberies and Halsted connects with one of the victims about their Army careers. Upton suspects there is more to the story and confides in Voight.
