Spy x Family 1×23 takes us back to the tennis match from the last episode. All the doubts I had about Twilight and Nightfall losing were put at ease. Fortunately, Nightfall exceeds expectations in this episode because she attempts to put her feelings aside. But once she does go back to her Twilight obsession, Yor puts her in her place. With only two episodes left, there’s no sense of where the series is going, but it will most likely involve Nightfall being a much larger presence in the Forger family household. We can only hope that this will enhance the story rather than diminish the anime.
OUTDOING THE CHEATERS

In the last episode, it felt like Twilight and Nightfall were going to lose the tennis tournament. This time, in Spy x Family 1×23, these spies become pro tennis players against the Campbell siblings. Except they get more curveballs than they expected. There are pressure tiles on the floor, the net can be adjusted up or down, and there are rubber bullets shot their way. Everything should throw them off, but because they were trained to be the most observant of all, it works in their favor.
There are just some unrealistic moments in anime when you think the main character is done for and then they end up winning in the end no matter what. This was one of those scenes. Given that Twilight and Nightfall were not tennis experts before this, there has to be some suspension of disbelief. However, the match itself was too entertaining to think about that, so this part of the episode was sweet. Especially when Twilight parents one of the Campbell siblings, it seems like Loid Forger has taken over his personality a little too much.
THE LADY IN THE SUN

When Nightfall and Twilight think they’re ready to have their mission complete, Campbell throws a wrench in their plans. They have to contend with the State Security Service wanting to take the painting with the secret dossier. So, the “Master of Disguise” devises a plan that gets them the painting and completes their mission, just left for the analysts to handle.
WISE discovers that the “world-ending” information in the dossier was just a man having problems with his wife. Twilight can’t believe this was the issue, but he doesn’t realize his own problems at home. Yor deserves more attention and appreciation, especially now that Nightfall wants to challenge her to anything. The dossier described a wife who felt like she was being underappreciated – so the parallel was glaringly obvious. Perhaps Twilight can get the hint and be a better husband and father as Loid Forger. While you can pick up the manga to find out, I have to wait for it for the anime to be adapted further.
YOR VS NIGHTFALL

For those in the anime community, I fully believe Yor Forger could defeat Goku – and she would do it by accident. She is underestimated and I can’t wait for the series to really explore the extent of her strength. The tennis match between Yor and Nightfall just shows yet again that a yandere can never truly win. No matter how much Nightfall can love Twilight, Yor will always have more power.
It would be great to explore and see the other ways that Nightfall will try to take Yor’s place. She’s a skilled spy who can do anything. Nightfall vs Yor will show us what a showdown between Twilight and the Thorn Princess would look like. If it comes down to Loid uncovering the truth about Yor, we’re in for a treat. So far, Spy x Family 1×23 is the cherry on top for this showdown.
OVERALL THOUGHTS

- When Nightfall is actually doing her spy duties, she doesn’t get on my nerves.
- I wonder why Yor needs reassurance from Loid all the time. He just asked her to pose as his wife.
- Yes, Yor in God mode is the best, felt like I was watching My Hero Academia with their special moves.
- Justice for Yor Forger once again, just look at the expression on her face.
- The next episode seems like there’s way too much going on and I’m not sure what to expect.
