Evil Dead Rise looks to be one of the scariest entries of the franchise and it shows in the official trailer. Warner Bros. Pictures dropped the Red & Green Band trailer just after releasing a poster and teaser. Those sets up the story of a family that are terrified by the transformation a loved one has gone through. And yes, you’re not alone in thinking that this smile looks like something straight out of Smile. (This isn’t a bad thing. No one can copyright a creepy smile. Personally, we want more creepy smiles.)
The official trailer adds to the terror.
Now with the Evil Dead Rise official trailer here, we’re giving more perspective on the official synopsis that reads as:
“a road-weary Beth (Lily Sullivan) pays an overdue visit to her older sister Ellie (Alyssa Sutherland), who is raising three kids on her own in a cramped L.A. apartment” and things take a turn for the weird and demented when the sisters’ reunion is cut short by the discovery of a mysterious book deep in the bowels of Ellie’s building, giving rise to flesh-possessing demons, and thrusting Beth into a primal battle for survival as she is faced with the most nightmarish version of motherhood imaginable.”
Just in case it needs saying, do not open a mysterious book. If not, you’ll end up possessed like Ellie. Oh and trying to deal with it all like Beth and the children are as things spiral into Deadites, elevator transformations, and the destruction of the human soul by demons. And if we’ve learned anything from the original and the 2013 film, this standalone is going to be just as jarring and controversial to those who are sick and tired of the same old when it comes to horror and want something more.
