While we have a lot to say about the Oscar noms and how so many people were screwed over, we can also see the joy in some of the nominations. And while a lot of people have issue with the movie Elvis and there are a lot of jokes about Austin’s Elvis accent, we have a love for the movie.
And we do think that Austin’s performance was phenomenal.
The actor called in to The Today Show and talked about his nomination and how it was for Lisa Marie Presley, who recently passed away at the age of 54.
“It’s sort of a bittersweet moment right now because I think of how much I wish she was here right now to get to celebrate with me. It’s the same thing I feel with Elvis; I wish that they could see these moments, you know? It’s just sort of strange to celebrate at a time of such deep grief. But I sort of think of it as a way to honor her. This is for her.” he said.
He also added, “Being recognized just feels very surreal and amazing.”
He also said to The Hollywood Reporter, “It’s sort of a bittersweet moment right now because I think of how much I wish she was here right now to get to celebrate with me. It’s the same thing I feel with Elvis; I wish that they could see these moments, you know? It’s just sort of strange to celebrate at a time of such deep grief. But I sort of think of it as a way to honor her. This is for her.”
Butlers relationship with the Presley family has been something special to see. In this writers opinion, it’s felt as though we were watching them both give each other a gift – the gift of peace and freedom. The gift of living and loving. The gift of being able to really do Elvis justice.
What I loved was just seeing how thankful he was for the support the movie was given last year.
What do you think of the nominations?
