Here we go!
The Family We Chose in Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job”
After the tremendous ending of the previous episode, in Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job” the team finds themselves trapped in the museum by Damian’s trap. He hates Sophie and is willing to do whatever it takes to destroy her, to get back at her… which means destroying the team.
Sophie feels somehow trapped in her past, and guilt over what it could mean to the team washes over her in waves. Right now, everything is hanging in the balance by an implacable enemy she knows well. And she can’t take it.
However, the team needs her to react, they need her. And Eliot isn’t subtle about waking her up. Sophie doesn’t blame him for what’s happening in Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job” but he does let Sophie see that her memories didn’t let her see clearly.
In this case, Eliot acted as a watchman. Ever since he met Billy, he knew that Sophie’s past was coming back with a vengeance and that it had the potential to end it all. So he tested the ground to see how dangerous it was… and he learned the truth. That being the case, Eliot wanted to be ready for when it all blew up in their faces…because he knew it would. He took it upon himself to protect them all, including Sophie.
However, you can’t ever be fully prepared for something like this. And when everything exploded in Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job” the team found themselves in more danger than ever. And Eliot needed Sophie to see that she had to react to overcome the demons from her past because not doing so cost them dearly.
Sophie knows that Eliot is right about this, and she can’t help but apologize for not seeing what was coming. Sophie feels guilty because she takes it upon herself to protect them all, she should have seen that her past was going to put them in danger.
Set the Record Straight
In Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job” Eliot makes it clear to her that she has nothing to apologize for. They can’t control when their past is going to come back to bite them in the ass. And yes, that is going to put them hopelessly in danger but they can handle it and it is worth it for the good they are doing. They are redeeming themselves for a complicated past in which, on most occasions, they hurt innocent people.
Eliot is right on this point but not about him not being able to redeem himself or get a second chance. He did bad things but the good he does now is his second chance, just like everyone else’s. The fact that he feels like he’s looking at the redemption of others through a glass without being able to reach his own is sad and I just want to hug Eliot.
I hope season 3 — fingers crossed — is the moment where Eliot realizes that he must forgive himself for everything he did and that he deserves a second chance.
Second Chances at Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job”
That said, Eliot isn’t the only past to pit Sophie against her past, in Leverage: Redemption 2×13 “The Crowning Achievement Job,” Astrid does as well. Sophie was her mother and she abandoned her.
Astrid always wondered why and hunted her down to find answers, to find out what she had done wrong. Sophie broke Astrid’s heart into a million pieces and her anger was the only thing she could hold on to keep from breaking.
But when Sophie is there in front of her, telling her that she never forgot her, that she loves her so much it hurts and that she followed her from afar, the anger fades and only pain remains. A searing pain that Astrid doesn’t know how to handle. The only thing she can do is trust her.
Despite everything, she looks into her eyes and sees that mother who loved her with everything she had and who tried to make her become who she is: an independent woman. And she knows that she must trust Sophie.
Thanks to that, Damian is history and now all that remains is to know what Astrid decides. Sophie is willing to accept whatever fate she chooses because she feels she owes it to her. But our beloved — and hated — Sterling makes an appearance to save Sophie and the team’s ass for once.
Although, to be honest, Astrid had no interest in arresting them, she wants to know Sophie, have a relationship with her… get her mother back. And Sophie is looking forward to it. Hopefully, we’ll see more of these two!
