Nearing the end of the season, Leverage: Redemption 2×12 “The Museum Job” is the best episode of this season. Sophie’s past comes back to bite her ass as the team grows closer than ever and some secrets are revealed. Ready?
Here we go!
The Past Returns with a Vengeance in Leverage: Redemption 2×12 “The Museum Job”
In Leverage: Redemption 2×12 “The Museum Job” Sophie’s past returns with a vengeance. Only this time, we find out that Sophie has a stepdaughter! Wait…yeah, Sophie has a daughter! And she’s really proud of her, judging by the way Sophie looks at her…
It turns out that Sophie’s stepdaughter is Parker’s nemesis, although, in reality, she could very well be Sophie’s because she has made things very difficult for her stepmother.
Sophie was happy with her family, but Damien put so much pressure on her that he forced her to get away, to abandon them… and it’s obvious that it’s a difficult burden for her to bear. Damien destroyed the life of Sophie and her entire family by making her have no choice but to leave them. That left an indelible mark on each of them.
In Sophie’s case, remembering was too painful and she still feels how her heart breaks when she does. For the one who was her husband, sadness and despair hastened his death and for her stepdaughter… she ended up despising Sophie and everything she stands for, dedicating her life to catching criminalslike her.
Life Gives You Surprises
I have no problem admitting that the scene between Sophie and her daughter in Leverage: Redemption 2×12 “The Museum Job” made me cry. Sophie had to give up her family because of Damien, but she never left them completely, she was attentive to her daughter and proud of her from a distance, despite being on opposite sides of the law.
But Sophie never thought that she would be able to see her, be in her presence, talk to her, let alone tell her how proud she is of her. She can’t do it openly now either, at least not in a way that she understands the real meaning behind her words, but Sophie isn’t about to pass up the one chance she has to tell her daughter everything she means to her. She even has to pretend to be someone else while she does it.
And that makes the scene tremendously sad. You can really feel how Sophie has her daughter so close to her… but so far away at the same time. You feel the distance and you feel Sophie’s pain and her daughter’s anger and you just want to hold them because it’s all so unfair it hurts.
We hope Sophie and her daughter get the chance to meet again and talk about the past beyond Leverage: Redemption 2×12 “The Museum Job.” It would be really interesting for the show to bring this dynamic to the fore and dig deeper into Sophie’s bonds beyond the team.
Speaking of the team, I loved that everyone was there when Sophie needed them, without question. They are a family and the family fights together. Just like they will with the real thinking mind behind all this Damian trap: Arthur.
While Damien just wanted to get Sophie’s attention and re-recruit her, try to bend her to his will again – not taking into account that Sophie is no longer who she was from the moment she dared to leave him behind – Arthur comes for revenge. And it won’t be pretty.
So Leverage: Redemption 2×12 “The Museum Job” leaves us ready for the season finale next week. We are already biting our nails!
PS: I never said anything bad about Billy (wink, wink). Although I didn’t trust him at first, he proved trustworthy.
Leverage: Redemption Season 2 streams on Amazon Freeve.
It is not Damien it is Ramsey who was her mentor. Damien was Eliot ‘s employer who he did the worse thing in his life for. I personally am not happy that Sophie was not strong enough to stay with her husband and stepdaughter. It has made me think less of her and if she is just using leverage to her own ends. But I will wait to see how it ends up. Maybe I am being too hard on her but all of the leverage crew were abandoned and now we find out Sophie is a person who abandoned her own family.
