This week’s 9-1-1: Lone Star seemed like somewhat of a filler episode. But “Sellouts” was lighter than the last two episodes which was much needed (and appreciated). Tommy, Nancy, and TK competed with Paragon, a private ambulance, for pretty much ever call, and Owen met a new friend who made him very confused after she paid him $140,000 after their dates. Let’s review.

Paragon vs The 126
The first call this week was to an elderly woman who had managed to get about a dozen contacts pilled up in her eye. Ewwww. First of all, HOW? How do you not realize you have multiple contacts in your eye? Anyway, Tommy has this under control and wants to take her to the hospital just to get checked out. But before they can leave, the paramedics from Paragon show up and take over their call. Jerks.
Paragon won the second time, too, when they were able to save Dan’s life. (Not that we’re not glad Dan survived, because we are. And he seemed really sweet, but we wish that Tommy could have been the one to save him). Paragon’s paramedics just seem like they’re out to make more money and not at all concerned about whether the patient actually needs to go to the hospital. Fortunately, karma does exist, and it seems like Paragon may not be around much longer after Pierce sues them for all they’re worth. And, as big of a jerk as Pierce was in this episode, he really didn’t deservce to have his ambulance blown up with him inside. Especially after he complained about the outdated equipment.
So it seems like the good guys won this time. And we did enjoy watching Tommy, Nancy, and TK drive the ambulance as fast as they good (with Grace’s instructions) to beat Paragon. We liked seeing the competitive side of Tommy. And it seemed like they had fun. We would pick Tommy, Nancy, and TK every time over Paragon. Because they’re the best. And they truly care about their patients.

Stand Up to Cancer
The other big story in “Sellouts” revolved around the fundraiser for cancer. It was fun watching the guys try to bond with the rich people at the fundraiser in order for them to place bids and make donations. It was even funnier when Owen met a bartender who turned out to not be a bartender. She’s loaded; she just wanted a Pinot Grigio and stepped behind the bar to get it.
Owen and Kendra (Michaela McManus), the not-bardender, waste no time in sleeping together. Actually, they do make a pretty nice, or at least attractive couple. But Owen’s confused when she leaves a check for $100,000 made out to him. The next time Owen and Kendra see each other, they sleep together again and she Venmos him another $40,000.
Kendra didn’t really think Owen was a sex worker. She was giving Owen the money for the charity to help fight cancer. We know Owen sometimes jumps to conclusions and makes situations worse, but we’re actually with him on this. What was he supposed to think? She wrote him a check after they slept together. And the Venmo payment had a bone emoji. If she wanted to make it clear it was for the charity, she should have written it out to the charity or 126 or at least used the memo line on the check.
Anyway, we’re glad this misunderstanding was cleared up. Will Kendra make another appearance on Lone Star? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Other Thoughts:
- We loved that Dan could joke about his “hot pants” even though his condition was very serious. And even though we had to turn away after he started bleeding out (so much blood), we were very much Team Dan. We’re glad he survived. And hopefully his luck will start to turn around after this horrific event.
- Owen’s got jokes. “Why does he look like a ski instructor?” But we wasn’t wrong. Pierce did look like a ski instructor.
- The members of the 126 look very nice all dressed up. Maybe they should have more charity events so we can see more of this.
